Great songs heard on radio

With a liberal dose of ‘I Can’t Go For That’ by Hall & Oates…but done really, really well. Great song.

Invisible Touch also got massive airplay and still does to this day. Although it’s Genesis not Phil Collins solo. I remember driving in Brisbane in 86 or 87 and it was on 3 stations at once, FM104, Stereo 10 and 4BK. It was huge on the radio.

Heard this again on smoothfm 95.3 at 2:40pm local time.

I would have liked “Get Me Outta Here” myself

GNFM/XLFM really know how to blend in the lesser played gems (including some that I had nearly forgotten about) with the usual classics. Heard these between 9-10pm tonight

Cum On Feel The Noise - Quiet Riot
Every Little Kiss - Bruce Hornsby & The Range
I Don’t Want To Be Nobody But You - Absent Friends
Sowing The Seeds Of Love - Tears For Fears
Always The Last To Know - Del Amitri
Invisible - Alison Moyet

Heard a couple of good 90s rock songs this morning in quick succession.

Counting Blue Cars by Dishwalla on Triple M Melbourne as the first song on Marty Sheargold’s show

Where The River Flows by Collective Soul on Triple M Tradie Radio (still using the MMM 90s playlist)

I’ve been listening to the same Retro 20/20 countdown as @radiolurker was tonight and I heard these rarely played gems

Maxine – Sharon O’Neill
Putting On The Ritz – Taco
Black And White – INXS
Moonlight Shadow – Mike Oldfield
Send Me An Angel – Real Life
I Love It When You Call Me Names – Joan Armatrading
Shiny Shiny – Haysi Fantayzee
Fraction Too Much Fiction – Tim Finn
Australiana – Austen Tayshus

Hearing Taco and Austen Tayshus were highlights, haven’t heard them on the radio for years!

The theme was the Top 20 from this week in 1983.

1983 - a great year. Probably near the peak of my personal favourite period of music - 1981 to 1986

…was the year U2 released “New Year’s Day”. 40 years on and it still gets plenty of airplay on commercial radio.

I also think Phil Collins might’ve also started recording some solo music around that time; I know by this point he had released “In the Air Tonight” while he had yet to release the likes of “Sussudio”, “Something Happened on the Way to Heaven” and “Easy Lover” among others.

Brains trust, I need your help here. I’m trying to work out what the song is at the very start of this clip of 2KA from 1984. It’s only about 2 seconds worth, but I have been scratching my head. Any ideas? 783kHz 2KA Katoomba NSW AUS 27-10-1984 (RGC198) - YouTube

Hmmm that’s a tough one, I tried a few times with Shazam but that didn’t work for me either.

That would be She Bop by Cindy Lauper

It’s not Cyndi Lauper that Mechie is asking about… it’s one just before the New KA sweeper starts (up to about 0:04 in the video).

My only other thought is whether it’s really a song as such, perhaps it’s a jingle from an ad that then flows into the New KA sweeper and then Cyndi Lauper.

Sorry, I have no idea either, I am thinking along the same line as @Radiohead, an ad jingle or intro to the news etc.

The song at the end of the clip I already knew was She Bop. Just the start of the clip is the one I’m trying to work out. It sounds very familiar and I’ll probably kick myself once I found out what it is.

Good luck, I’d be interested to hear what the song is if/when you find out.

I also thought it could have been the end of All through the night by Cindy Lauper, from 1983 but listening to it on Apple Music it is slightly different. Totally stumped.

It does sound remarkably like All Through the Night.
