Gold Network

That’s good news, I was about to have a listen/look at Lava.

‘Shut Up And Dance’ is one that they’ve played when it was WSFM as well.

Although they have played Living on a prayer five times :stuck_out_tongue:

Why can’t Gold101.7 be truthful & honest and say the real reason for the rebrand is purely based on a corporate network decision.

There’s Gold104.3 in Melbourne, and as a result, the entire network is being pulled under that network name.

Just say it.

We already have the KIIS, Nova, smooth and Triple M networks. So it’s not like the listeners will care. At the end of the day, they’ve lost the WSFM branding anyway - so what else do they have to lose in giving a real response?

It’s all about the spin. They can’t say “we don’t want to be associated with western Sydney anymore”, so they have to craft this narrative about emotional connection and better aligning to the sound.

O’Connell back and in fine form. Haven’t stopped laughing at the podcast. Just an amazing show.

Yeah, sounding full of life and energy, talking about the AO and his hols upsetting Danish families. Sounding good.

His new promo is quite novel.

Did the same thing last year

Agree.

Or they could have just played the whole thing down and just gradually dropped the WSFM.

They didn’t need to make a whole big song and dance about it in the first place.

Because you can’t admit that there are winners and losers with K&JO - WSFM was the loser.

And if this works, this will spread. I’m tipping Gold 981 Muswellbrook by the end of the year.

Gold 101.7 playing the same playlist as Gold 104.3 this morning.

I think they have been since the rebrand on January 2?

Yes, you’re probably right.

I think on GOLD 101.7 Ugly Phil had extended his shift until 2pm and no more Totally 80s on weekdays. I was listening a bit yesterday and they played a song from Script around 1pm.

And on the back of the news of Phil O’Neil joining 2GB and 4BC as the new host of the Overnights program. Here’s the Gold 101.7 announcement of his departure.

Phil’s final show will be Friday, February 28, with a replacement for GOLD101.7 Mornings to be announced soon.

I liked Ugly Phil, he will be missed on WSFM, oops sorry Gold 101.7… a man of many talents…

Will then have done all of Hot AC music, Gold music and talkback formats…

I can’t think of many announcers that have done three different formats like that?

wonder if they’ll find someone local to replace, or if they will use this as a way to start quietly networking the workday with Melb…

I am sure they will find someone to replace him like Rob Duckworth which we had been hearing lately on Gold 101.7 over the summer break.
