And 2SM definitely plays 60’s and 70’s music from time-to-time.

I preferred it when all they played was 80s!

Me too, on the rare occasion I hear an 80s track on 2SM DAB, I pretend it’s ‘Rock Of The 80s’ again, until the inane talkback snaps me back into reality! :face_with_spiral_eyes:

An opinion piece, which also contains a bit of history about the station, from Radioinfo:
WSFM explains Gold101.7 name change to listeners

As part of the promotion for the new name, ARN is placing outdoor ads in strategic locations.

The first is on the M4 motorway heading towards Blacktown.

Whether intentional or just coincidence, the billboard is at the Prospect Highway exit, the very road that the first employees of 2WS would have taken to travel to the old shack that was the first home of Western Sydney’s first radio station.

New Jonesy & Amanda promo and my initial reaction was ‘why are they using the 10 News theme?’

After seeing the artists name I looked it up and it’s from a movie soundtrack. Sounds like a mash of 7 & 10 news themes from 3:58

I did search the forum before posting apologies if someone else has picked this up first.

River 949 has been playing A-Z of their song library this month. Sounds very much like a Gold station should, and much more listenable than usual.

Already a “gold” format on GC DAB+

Hot Tomato Gold was launched when GC DAB+ began. Its simplicity is its success.

The log is the regional classic hits log heard on stations such as 5RM, LAFM, Zinc 96 (thanks for the reminder @TV.Cynic) and many others. I think earlier discussion of the format traces the origins to Scott Van Der Linden at 4MK the scheduler/programmer, that may have changed with time.

Launched at a time when the stupidity of SCA was at one of its many high water marks, when 92.5 Gold was renamed Triple M and now the laughable Frankenstein Triple M Gold. Hot Tomato Gold was the only Gold named station on the GC.

The station also plays the metro syndicated content such as Jonesy/Amanda & Christian (instead of clogging up 102.9). Former 92.5 Gold FM, Adrian AJ Johnston is heard on breakfast via clever, all purpose voice tracks.

All the gold you need, on the Gold Coast.

Also the same log as Zinc 96 on the Sunny Coast (plus a couple of extra songs per hour due to fewer adverts).

One of the reasons I like to listen to 4BH is their ‘30 minutes commercial free’, and lo and behold, just down the road here’s ARN doing 60-minute music marathons. So I thought I’d listen and find out what all the fuss is about.

Is Hot tomato gold a station a former 4KQ listener could listen to?

Could you handle Beds are burning at the top of the hour? (That’s more something River 94.9 would do). Then straight into You make loving fun?

Is it classic hits like 4KQ? Mostly. But then 4KQ would never have played Corona straight after yacht rock.

That Corona song arguably does have a place on a station like HTG, but not in that order, that’s just jarring for anyone. Swap Whispering Jack with it and it might work a bit better.

It looks like Gold101.7 have tweaked their messaging slightly.

They were, “WSFM is now Gold101.7” - now it’s, “Gold101.7, Sydney’s new WSFM”.

I think they should’ve stuck with the first one. “Sydney’s new WSFM” sounds like the previous, “The New 104.1 2DayFM”. It’s not a new WSFM… it’s previously WSFM.

It surprises me that they’re still referencing WSFM more than 2 weeks after the name change.

I thought they would have stopped that by now.

2wks is nothing. Especially considering there wasn’t really much pre-promote apart from a few mentions on-air.

When SCA rebranded to Hit/Triple M in regional areas, I don’t think there was any similar post messaging on Hit, and it only lasted about a week on Triple M.

There wasn’t much pre-promtion either… on Triple M it was… “on Friday, there is a change coming to eg 2MC FM… mmmm, what could it be?” from about 6 days out.

I don’t think the Hit stations did anything at all pre-change?

The difference with SCA’s roll out, was once the Hit & Triple M rebrand happened, it’s the flooding of the market afterwards which made an impact.

Let’s hope we see Gold101.7 do more on-ground activity in the coming week.

Is there any changes to the music format on Gold today?

J&A explaining the changes here:

with all due respect to Amanda, when I hear a good song, I personally don’t say “that’s GOLD”, not sure about you guys though

although kinda mixed messaging again considering that blog post last week did not say anything about “we’re part of a network, it’s the GOLD network”

Don’t think so. Oldest song they’ve played so far today - Gerry Rafferty - Stuck in the middle with you from '72 about ½ an hour ago, not much today from the past 25 years - closest we get - Robbie Williams and Kylie - Kids, and Teenage Dirtbag.

Nothing from the past decade so far today. Newest song played so far was Shut up and dance (2014) at 5.15 this morning.
