Also give SWR FM 99.9 a listen as well, a community station based out of Blacktown (former 2WS heartland) which has a “70s to Now” format on weekdays from 6am to 6pm.

I do, and I yell at more than just clouds.

My computer (when it says no), my Sharkies when they do stupid things, traffic lights when they take too long to change, as a pedestrian or driver, I could go on (but I won’t).

Yeah, I did on Sunday morning, and it was a foreign language program.
Just checked the website - it was the Punjabi Show.

They have some great music programs on Sat arvos too.

Looks like the new branding on the sites are up:

I don’t think these are quite finished yet though. A few things stand out:

  • Gold 104.3 has www in the domain but Gold 101.7 doesn’t (I hope they align these)
  • That Blue writing on each of the graphics on the Shows page doesn’t seem right
  • Still gotta update that old WSFM/Gold 104.3 logo on the On Air Now section.
  • The Shows item is missing at the top of the Gold 101.7 website (although that was missing pre-rebrand too)

Since I’ve moved to Sydney I find it hard to find anything I like on FM but my favourite stations I have found so far have to be Vintage FM followed by Fun Super Digi on DAB+.

Gosh they look shit, that yellowy/green colour is abysmal.

It looks abysmal, both the design and colour. Is it meant to be Gold FM or Big Bird FM?

They could have brightened up the previous gold colour without going full blown canary. It looks flouro green on some screens

Oh and surprise, surprise from the screenshot above, GOLD104.3 are playing Robbie Williams.

Meantime, Gold 104.3 have revealed up to song 190 so far of their Summer 500 (nothing yet on WS). Only three Robbie Williams tracks so far!!!

A countdown like this should be a good excuse to break format - but no - still just churning out McDonalds radio. Safe. Boring.

Some highlights, if you can call them that:

384 LEAVE A LIGHT ON BELINDA CARLISLE
369 JUST DANCE LADY GAGA (not a Gold staple, more Fox)
350 SUPERSTAR JAMELIA (Singstar favorite)
331 LIGHTNING CRASHES LIVE (not a Gold staple, more MMM)

The colour “gold” should be all class. A deep colour. This looks more like the end result of overdosing on three of four Beroccas.

I also think there is a mismatch between the imagery and actual product when it comes to the advertising of Kyle and Jackie. The ads reflect style, class and sophistication. Deep purple background and a glossed up (and touched up) photo of the two hosts. The actual show is far away from this - the product is crass, asinine, course and vacuous.

It might make sense to Sydney as the crassness of the show developed over the more stylish “Breakfast with the Stars” that they pushed in the 2000s. To those in Melbourne, the sexy glamour shots do not match the product.

The tagline “we’re behaving” is just a reminder of how mindless the show is, it’s like they’re apologising for being gross. I think to most Melbournians the line “we’re behaving” means absolutely nothing. And “listen now” seems like an order.

The worry for ARN is Kyle and Jackie never provided them with a bump in the ratings on 101.1 It’s just been a slow slide downwards. Kyle and Jackie might be behaving but Melbourne has already said “We’re Not Interested”

ARN had all summer to think of how they could give CPR to the Sydney breakfast show that is now broadcast on 101.1. It seems the best they came up with was the same old glossed up photo shoots they used in 2024. It’s not working ARN. You needed something different.

Don’t think I had ever heard that on WSFM/GOLD before.

Though I did hear it on Hope 103.2 in the very early hours of 2025, and it’s also played quite frequently on smoothfm.

The new yellow is not an improvement on the old gold.

Yes! And the lower colour reminds me of beer and that’s a good thing.

As Brian68 said “it’s Big Bird yellow”, I know that they want to grow their younger audience but Sesame Street or The Wiggles yellow is a little too young.

Interestingly, we had Hope as a DAB+ station here in Brisbane for 2023, before switching back to Christmas Hope, where it remained for the duration of 2024.

Speaking of Hope, how many other stations in Australia have a 0.2 MHz spacing?

Class? ARN? Those are two words that don’t mesh well together.

Not many.

In Melbourne there is a community radio station on 88.6, and there used to be another one, 3WRB, on 97.4.

There must be others but I can’t think of any.

Rebel 99.4 and Breeze 100.6 on the Gold Coast are a couple.

Why does ARN insist upon using that wavy lined generic artwork for all their website headers?

They use pink/purple variants across KIIS and I think even red/white for the 96fm website.

Why use generic or corporate branding across these brands?
