This is what you get when you blow your load over 2 talentless hacks.
They’re probably happy running CADA on the smell of a oily rag, knowing they get away with breaking the 2 to a market rule because we have a deadshit of a regulator and pollies who do not have the balls to make them do anything.
CADA needs to be sold or shut down. It’s not serving its license area, which is not Sydney.
Probably the best way for them to pay K&J the money is to shut CADA down in Katoomba, what’s the point of having an FM radio station in the area that’s mainly Sydney-centric? If a radio listener wants to listen to something Sydney-centric, they’ll go over to the main Sydney stations. Doesn’t CADA have a very niche amount of listeners in Katoomba?
I know and I understand it’s licensed to Katoomba, but ARN are simply breaking the rules by being a Sydney station on FM and not a Katoomba station (do they even have regionalised Katoomba ads on there anymore or is it just mainly Sydney metropolitan ads on the Katoomba station now?). There are already 2 ARN stations licensed to Sydney on FM, Gold101.7 and K&JO 1065. If they don’t wish to serve Katoomba anymore, just give up, simple as that. Either that or just get the ACMA to march down to ARN’s North Sydney office and terminate the CADA Katoomba FM license.
Sorry for going on with this massive rant, but I felt like I needed to mention something here regarding this. BTW, isn’t CADA already receivable in Katoomba (from Sydney) on DAB+ Digital? (Paging @tvcl and @VK3SWL)
I have the same dream. They probably should give up 88.3 and 99.1. The reason why they don’t give it up as they don’t want competition. Back in the 90s didn’t 2day fm and Triple M take 2ka (it was One FM) to court to lower the power and lost the court case. The big players are happy it’s just there as is and not a big threat. Maybe not enough money to be made in the blue mountains area. Penrith CBD reception suffers from the shadow of the mountain rather boom in there like the old 1476 am did. That is also the license area , 99.1 should be used for Cada not Gold. They should have never used the same site for both Penrith and Katoomba. Castle Hill has better reception than Penrith CBD and Emu Plains.
UPDATE: It’s just full-on Sydney metro advertising on Katoomba now. I heard ads for Tyrepower, Youi and Kia, and ads for Featherdale Sydney Wildlife Park and Windsor Auto Group, both of which are an hour away (via car providing there are no traffic holdups in Sydney) from Katoomba. I mean, WTF?
To further add to the problem, they’re mainly promoting DAB+ and iHeartRadio instead of also promoting the CADA96.1 Katoomba service.
With their studios being housed in North Sydney (and before that Macquarie Park) these days, perhaps it’s a sign they’ve given up on catering to the Blue Mountains? Now essentially a full-time repeater of the CADA Sydney DAB+ service?
To be fair their licence area isn’t just the village of Katoomba. It does extend into the metropolitan area of Sydney. Not sure exactly how far east it goes but it at least takes in metropolitan suburbs like Penrith.
The changes are being made to “connect with a younger 25-54 audience while still appealing to the station’s loyal fan base.”
Yes, and you know what that means? More songs that don’t fit the format at all.
Looking at the logs, they’ve been doing things like playing Avril Lavigne’s “Sk8er Boi” before ABBA’s “Dancing Queen”, and Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger” after Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive”.
Yeah…sounds like absolute garbage.
I won’t be listening to GOLD (formerly WSFM). I found that comment from Duncan Campbell re: WSFM and baggage very offensive on a personal level and will be removing it from my presets.
It’s possible to blend old and new tracks seamlessly to create a really engaging playlist for a wide age group. But you’ve got to actually pick the right songs.
They need to take a look at The Breeze playlist - they play brand new stuff that just works.
Skater Boi and Moves Like Jagger are both abominable songs in their own right
It’s one of the first thing you learn when programming music. Flow.
Gold 104.3 has been doing some odd things over the last few months. Like Bon Jovi’s “Bad Medicine” followed by Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors”. A similar thing when a Nirvana song was followed by a much softer song.
All oldies, but such a jarring change between them. And that’s before the “new” format.
I did listen when the transition started taking place and the ID’s are just cringeworthy - one of ID’s said something along the lines of “the new station name will be easier to remember?”
What? Are Sydneysiders too stupid to remember WS? LOL
Why can’t Duncan be upfront and just be honest with the real reason for renaming to Gold?
We all know why!
Until now, WS was the only Sydney station worth listening to. I didn’t even mind the adding of newer type tracks - I do get the timeline needs to move along.
I sometimes thought this at times too, but I really didn’t mind - in a way, it’s subjective, as a few others have pointed out that they thought the flow in the examples were ok.
I haven’t listened to 101.7 for a few days now and as I previously mentioned, have removed it from my presets.
The only other alternative would be Smooth, but the constant jingles and announcers sounding fake are a real turn off.
The only stations worth listening to now in Sydney are c91.3 and if I’m in the mood for unflogged 60’s to early 80’s, VintageFM.
