Gogglebox Australia

Gogglebox Australia Returns With Some New Couch Critics.

Premieres Thursday, 25 August At 8.30pm On 10 And 10 Play.

Having added another Logie win to the tally, the five-time TV WEEK Logie Award-winning show, Gogglebox Australia returns on Thursday, 25 August. Australia’s favourite entertainment program and households are ready to return to their lounges and our screens to kick off season 16, and welcome a new household - Kevin, Bob, Jared, and Mia.

Gogglebox Australia will dedicate the first episode of the season to Di Kershaw who sadly recently passed. Di was a much-loved Gogglebox family member who joined husband of more than 50 years, Mick, on their couch each season and delivered countless memorable moments. Never afraid to speak her mind, Di had a huge impact on audiences and she and her unforgettable laugh will be deeply missed by all.

Following casting efforts early this year, this season we welcome our newest household from Brisbane, Kevin, Bob, Jared, and Mia.

Kevin is a Wakka Wakka and South Sea Islander man who grew up on Butchulla Country (Hervey Bay) in Queensland’s South-East. Kevin is a university lecturer and research student, examining ways to best support First Nations peoples seeking justice and compensation from workplace racism. Kevin first met Jared and Mia at university as an undergraduate student and has been in a relationship with Bob for almost five years.

Bob is a Kamilaroi man with ancestral ties to St George Queensland and was raised on Mununjali Country (Beaudesert Queensland). Living in Meeanjin/Magandjin (Brisbane), Kevin and Bob have been in a relationship for five years and together they have two children whom they co-parent and raise alongside their mum. Bob met Mia and Jared through Kevin and have formed a strong relationship over big belly laughs and yarns about life, love, relationships, and social justice.

Jared (Kalkadoon, Undumbi and South Sea Islander) was born in Meeanjin/Magandjin (Brisbane) and has strong family ties in Townsville, Bowen and Rockhampton. Jared currently lives with his partner Preston (of 10 years) and met Kevin and Mia while working at a university, where they bonded over robust discussions about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community politics and their united passion for social justice.

Mia (Yuwaalaraay/Gamilaraay) grew up in Lightning Ridge, famous for black opals and being a multicultural remote town. Along with being proud and passionate about her culture, Mia also has Slovenian heritage. Mia studied a Bachelor of Public Health at Griffith University on the Gold Coast but now works in the tertiary sector managing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Collections and Services.

Young, proud, and staunch custodians of their Indigenous culture and identity, this group of four friends are very close and often catch up to discuss the navigation of life, love and relationships while having fun and staying connected to their communities. You can find this crew watching Ru-Paul’s Drag Race, The Project , Euphoria, Wentworth, or a good crime documentary.

They join the Gogglebox family households of The Delpechitra Family, happily married couple and grandparents Lee and Keith, Greek best friends Anastasia and Faye and tight knit family of four, The Daltons. The three generations of The Silbery women (Emmie, Kerry, and Isabelle) settle in on the couch, while Sarah Marie, Matty and almost three-year-old Malik invite Uncle Jad back into their loungeroom. Best mates and larrikins, Adam and Symon return with Symon now a first-time dad, surfing mates and best friends Milo and newly engaged Nic and brother and sister foodies Tim and Leanne.

Gogglebox Australia is an Endemol Shine Australia production for Network 10 and Foxtel.

They forgot about this new couple.

According to News Corp, Gogglebox will pay tribute to Di with a dedication at the start of the episode while a three-minute montage of her and Mick’s time over 15 seasons will be included at the end.

^ Not a fan so far of the new ‘family’.

Did they watch the Neighbours finale?

No Neighbours - everything was recent.

Beautiful tribute to Di at the end of the show.

They can’t find a place for the eisteddfod show, I feel like the dog house would be a better lead in.

But they have found a slot. U.30 Thursday. I’d say they’ve screened all the episodes in the current series of Dog House since last week they had a special celebrity edition.

Has Gogglebox always been MA15+? Especially or an earlier timeslot.

Gogglebox has mostly been rated M, it’s only MA if the episode includes shows which are also rated MA. For example, this week’s season premiere reviews the first episode of House of the Dragon which is MA.

Oh ok. I thought maybe the new family just swore a lot?

But that’s weird its from an MA rated show but parts they choose to play don’t necessarily mean its in that category.

I like the new family they seem more interesting than the Elias family.

I still don’t know why we have Adam and Symon back when we already have 2 blokes on the couch Milo and Nic .

I guess with Kaday and Chantel gone they needed more people on .

Not really a new “family” though. They are a couple and their two friends. Agree that they were good.

Milo and Nic should have been moved on. They were only filling Adam and Symon’s spot after they left anyway.

Then new family is a bit of a breath of fresh air. Gogglebox has always done a good job at representing the cross section of society and it was overdue for a First Nations family/friends.

It’s a shame they never replaced the original season’s gay couple. Noting however the new family does address this as well.

It would be nice if they had families from Perth, Adelaide, etc. Gogglebox UK has a really good spread of families too.

The shows they are reviewing seem very boring this week. Not much going on.
