George Floyd Killing/BLM - Coverage

The ABC have sent Phillip Williams to the United States to report on the protests. He’s currently in LA.

I believe the ABC only had 2 reporters there previously.

How is that a muppet from a fictional place can do a better job of summing up the situation then the elected muppet in the white house?

Because the Republican party have turned a blind eye to hid antics in fear he May tweet about them negatively.

And I wouldn’t take much notice of a hand stuck in a Muppets butt either. Sesame street has become to politically involved.

Education is an important step in combatting racism, sexism, queerphobia and other social issues. People aren’t born racist, if you teach kids to treat people equally regardless of skin colour it’s one step towards them growing into good adults.

Hi @ShadowDan. Are you selectively replying?

I will give you that, I suppose, but isnt it the job of the parents instead of TV? Yes seaseme street is an educational show, but to what extent should they be teaching these kids about these issues at such an young age? Yes I know what you are saying has merrit, but I just think there should be a bit of a discussion at how kids shows handle such issues.

Aren’t you a social worker?

Parents should equally be teaching and reinforcing these positive attitudes. But influences also come from everywhere else in life. To say that kids are too young is misguided. Kids are highly impressionable, that’s just how they are, and just like they can be taught good behaviours and views at a young age they can equally witness or be subject to negative ones.

How can someone be “too young” to teach them how to be a decent human being?

It’s literally what Sesame Street has been covering for 51 years. They’ve covered racism many, many times.

It isnt an either/or situation - childrens television exists to help educate and to supplement other learning.

There is plenty of room for others to extend the teaching if need be - I thought the CNN program did a good job at introducing a difficult topic in a reasonably simple way, its a really good start.

I don’t even think racism should be considered a political matter or topic. It shouldn’t matter whether you are right or left racism is not ok and should be discussed with children.

You’re about a day late with that news Johnson. It was posted above.

That article posted yesterday referred to the editor of The Philadelphia Inquirer who resigned over a “deeply offensive” headline, this one refers to another American paper.

This is just madness.

I will predict Live PD will be axed. These shows show how.much scum the police deal.with in the US on a daily basis. Love PD has already been cancelled sue to covid 19. No doubt it had something to do with the latest black live.movement drama-

Hopefully this all paves way for some great changes in the police enforcement operations. Shows like this will come back one day but changes must occur.

there have been reports showing up all week about the behind the scenes antics. Including producers posing as armed cops coercing subjects to sign releases and crew memebers encouraged to provoke situations. Axing it is just getting ahead of the scandal and doing what is inevitable.

If it’s true then yeah axing it would be th best outcome…
