General TV History

That was probably a factor too… if they’re existing lineup had been a powerhouse they probably would have stuck with the 30 minute bulletin.

They had the “extra” shows in each city at 5.30 but only the Brisbane Extra had any significant lifespan. The other city versions didn’t last long

Who hosted Sydney Extra?

Melbourne Extra was hosted by John Jost (poached from hosting The 7.30 Report on ABC) and reporters included Tracey Spicer and Helen Ballard

Jim Waley anchored for at least part of its run

It’s to my understanding that Gina Boon took over as host of Sydney Extra after Jim Waley moved onto establish Nightline, while the program was cancelled at the end of 1992.

That’s my recollection as well.

New here so have no clue if Im doing this right but here goes. Many years ago - and Im talking about circa 199o or so there was a lady reading the news for I think Win TV in Toowoomba Qld. One night she anounced was leaving and coming home to Hobart Tas. I assumed she was going to WIN Tv but just recently she is seen in the ads for Southern Cross News in Tassie. I often wondered what became of her so now I know she obviously worked at SCTV for a while. I think her name was Kay something but she had gorgeous long hair that was spiky at the top. Can anyone help me with what she does these days and what her name is? Thanks

Was it a recent ad or archive footage? Is it Kaye Wilkinson you’re thinking of? Unfortunately she passed away last year.

I can’t remember a Kay being a host, i could be wrong. I do however remember a Carolyn Barlow, co-hosting Here Tonight with a guy named Craig Burgess and Pat O’Shea (long time DDQ/WIN sports presenter). This was in the mid 1980s - we left the area in 1986, so I am unsure about what happened to her

This was a simple pre-launch promo advising how to get GO! on your digital receiver.

In that rescan promo, the guy mentions that you can get GO! from 1pm August 5.

However, that was actually the time the channel started showing a promo loop:

Before that, it showed a simple logo loop with a V/O “A new TV channel is coming where it’s good to (X). GO! soon.”:

In WIN areas you got this instead:

BTW this YT channel may be interest of pre-launch and post-launch stuff:

Seven News Melbourne update from 1992 presented by a young Peter Mitchell. His presenting style has changed quite a bit!

And much like Hitchener at Nine, I don’t feel it’s a change for the better. They’ve become caricatures of newsreaders.

A few weeks after Go launched, I smuggled a digital set top box into my year 9 camp and hooked it up to the TV in our room (there were 4 guys with me). I remember we watched some shit on Go (some Seinfeld marathon or something?).

There was also some SBS softcore porn and some documentary about breasts thrown in the mix there…

You could use this to check what programs you watched and what date it happened…

Couldn’t agree more! Mitch just shouts the news at you now. And his voice pitch gets higher and higher the more excited he is about the latest crime spree.
