General News Events - Coverage Discussion

You could say that for 6pm news bulletins on 7 and 9 as well

Later, ACA chose not to cover the story - mustn’t have thought it of interest to their usual audience.

It was number 2 story at 7pm on ABC

ABC covered both things at 9:07pm AEST during The World. However, it’s almost as if this segment was pre-recorded.

For the protests, it’s “80,000 security forces deployed nationwide ahead of demonstrations”. For the handover, none of the B-roll was from tonight’s speech.

Is it that hard to cross over to live feeds or update the reports with tight-turnaround footage?

Back to the live feed, since 4:10pm local/12:10am AEST, the focus has squarely been on a Parisian restaurant partially set ablaze.

The fire was caught live and BFMTV/LCI, already having it on air, decided to keep rolling.

Of course, it was far from the only place suffering the fate. On a lesser note, the Statue de la Republique has been defaced.

Early reports broke during breakfast TV followed later by the death annoucement by Trump. Today first reported at 5:35, Sunrise at 5:50am

Seven and Sky are taking Utah media conference live.

Timing of breaking this one on-air:

CNN/FOX: 4:51
Newsmax: 4:56
MSNBC: 4:58
ABC US: 5:00
CBS/NBC: 5:02
Sky: 5:08
Nine: 5:35
Seven: 5:50
ABC: 6:17

All the US nets immediately rolled with the story at the given times.

Pretty surprised that the remark was not called out on-air at that moment.

It simply made no sense whatsoever.

He deserves a fortnight suspension, if that.

In Adelaide, Seven did a live cross to Tim Lester about 15 minutes into the bulletin

The Sep 11 memorial will take place tonight at 10:30pm AEST and go on for about four hours.

Only 3 New York stations will carry it in its entirety.

Probably some other news channels (incl. cablers) have shown interest in taking portions of it, but now with the shooting, I wouldn’t expect any of it to be aired, really.

How about the 3 major breakfast shows in New York ?

As it stands, no plan.

They will be opted out by those affiliates at 8.25am local to commence the coverage.

Quick note: There was another shooting at Denver’s Evergreen High School.

This broke at about the same time as the other shooting. At least the locals gave about two hours of rolling coverage on it.

Just crossing 1am Eastern time.

  • CNN crossing over to CNNI (not originally scheduled). This feed is more inclusive to other stories albeit limitedly.
  • FNC broadcasts a “break-glass” evening lineup. (Hannity & FN@Night both 2 hours, followed by a 3-hour newscast).
  • MSNBC in tape.

This just in: Lord Mandelson, UK ambassador to US, has been removed from post due to ties with Epstein.

After the live Commons feed (an urgent Questions session, I should note) was shown around 7.45pm AEST, coverage continued for about two hours on the UK newsers.

Just your average multi-day stretch of rolling-worthy stories.

Head over to one of the 4 NY stations if you want to follow the 9/11 memorial event, where president Trump is expected to speak shortly.

Breaking news out of Brasil, where former president Bolsonaro has been sentenced to 27 1/4 years in prison due to attempts to overturn election in 2022.

(He faced five charges. Guilty the whole lot.)

The best graphics have to go to this one.

Well done Brazil, it was starting to seem like the whole world is accepting that leaders can act with impunity.

ABC News claiming to show it live.

Without a visual cue to indicate such. There was never a live shot of the empty podium.

In any case, a change from their usual “night-service” approach.
