General News Events - Coverage Discussion

I have rewound ABC TV Melbourne and can confirm this presser was not taken live. No breaks in programming.

It was on the news channel though, obviously.

Although we should have known considering that ABC’s mic flag wasn’t present…

Odd choice but is what it is. Did 7 take the presser at all, given even 10 did?

No live coverage on Seven in Melbourne. 10 was during a news bulletin. Seven mentioned it in a news break later.

No doubt they did. (Edit: Hang on, that wasn’t it?)

The ABC has a news channel. Breaking into the main channel isn’t really warranted.

Switching to this thread for topic relevance. (That one is for the presser’s content.)

All the news channels I flipped through indicated live coverage (programming remains normal as expected).

ABC (both) don’t. Sky will have it via the UK feed, and may have to delay First Edition if the event runs long.

And it’s America, where everything starts seven minutes after announced time, so realistically 4:40am AEST if not further.

Delayed yet again, according to C-Span’s lower third. Scheduled for 2:45 EDT now, so possibly a 3:00 start.

EDIT 4:42 AUS TIME: Something seriously bad (thank god) must be happening to him as we’ve been pushed back to a scheduled 3:05 EDT start. Perhaps 7 and 9 might take it live now?

EDIT 4:48: NOPE, WE’RE GOING NOW. Looks alive and well-ish. Coverage on cablers only.

If anything, the attention has officially turned away from the event.

Suddenly what I thought is a mundane news conference that should not deserve coverage airtime* has become a hotspot for continuation of whatever speculations have been flying.

It’s deeply strange to say the least.

Update: Sky is live via UK. ABC’s 18-hour news channel continues to live up to its billing.

CNN and MSNBC broke out for ads. Fox staying.

7 and 9 has nothing to worry about. Slip in a 10-second soundbite in a 30-second report at the 4th/5th place in the rundown and that will do.

And after not even 10 minutes, everyone other than C-Span and Fox have pissed off to do ads.

UK Deputy PM Angela Rayner resigned over not paying enough tax, sparking a cabinet reshuffle with the ousting of two ministers to begin with.

The story broke shortly after 9pm AEST and all three UK newsers immediately launched rolling coverage.

(Another one breaking at around that time is the passing of Duchess of Kent. This one is mentioned in the tickers.)

103/600 will be all over this from 1am. (Update: Sky UK went to commercial break at 2:56am, their first since 8:45pm. The story will continue to roll throughout the rest of the day. AU will leave at 5:30am as is always the case.)

Nothing on ABC.

ABC didn’t think so. I didn’t see it in the 10pm bulletin. And the next news is an update which i assume is prerecorded after the 10pm bulletin.

Children murdering other children sounds major to me..

If it is the story I think David is talking about, it’s pretty horrific, and it should be mentioned.

There are reports that there are also multiple armed people on the run in the area.

There is another topic for posting links to news reports.
