Please tell me this is satire.
Thatâs fair, and I agree with that entirely at this stage of the story. The concern will be when the situation is no longer active, and hopefully some restraint is shown.
It looks like Sky News UK has sent Nicole Johnston (who has been seen recently on ABC) to cover the shooting.
Just after midnight AEST, there has been reports of an âactive shooterâ at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, MS.
That person is dead. Federal agents are on-site. President and state governor has been briefed. A news conference is scheduled for 1:35am.
U.S. news channels (the three main cable ones, Newsmax, Newsnation, and the three streamers) are all over this since about 12:20am.
In Australia, Sky News is all over this via simulcast of UK feed. ABC doesnât even have it as an item on the news ticker. Do they even have capacity to update it at night?
NBC News Now taking Kare11 feed. Kare11 reporting a child is dead.
I donât think so but i assume it will be mentioned on DW News in about 30 minutes.
ABC has added a report from AP to itâs website:
There has been another death and 20 further injuries reported. Therefore it can be classified as a mass shooting.
Speaking of NBC, there was a 10-minute special report that went out at 12:55am AEST (which NBCNN obviously took). It was mentioned at the end that âthere will be a complete wrap-up on Nightly Newsâ, so NN is going to have to stick with KARE for as long as they want.
Now for the Australian FTA channels (7, 9, 10), I do wonder whether the placement of this story in the rundown would be higher because Melbourne.
News Now has broken out of Tom Fryer broken out of KARE to show the press conference with government officials at 1:55.
ABC still on 7:30.
Depending if any other developments occur overnight but i assume it will be towards the top.
EDIT: ABC now airing DW News, hasnât mentioned the shooting yet, rather showing Indian/US tariffsâŚ
Just for completeness, One America is also carrying the press conference. ABC wonât cover it, unless DW stops going on about rubbish, untill the WA midnight bulletin in 10 minutes.
ABCUS, CBS, NBC all doing special reports, Fox is not unless itâs a Tier 2. WNYW doing local coverage, KTTV continuing GDLA with news about LA shootings, KMSB Tucson shares itâs department with KOLD CBS, and is sticking with Sherri Shepard as their newscast ended at 2 our time.
It doesnât even make the front page on its website (aside from that rolling RSS feed), so I checked the 2am headline sequence and left immediately.
Good to know I was right.
ABC didnât have the press conference. Is this a â24-hourâ news station, when the item shows up faster on the web than even the ticker?
ABC midnight WA report starting with Victoria shooting instead. Possibly pre-rec? Does not appear to be on the ticker.
ABC bulletins are prerecorded after 11:30pm AEST.
I wish they got the ABC Radio staff to update the ticker when major stories happen.
Why? Ridiculous when the late late news is done from Perth.
Iâm not sure unfortunately.
I believe the 12am one is a rerun of the main channel bulletin.
I just got a press notification from ABC News at 2:20 about the shooting FYI.
ABCUS and CBS have finished up for now. NBC is still going.
NBC wrapped up network coverage at 12:30, eastern time stations going into NBC News Daily which has more coverage.
Should note the initial 10-minute breakout report (pre-conference), as I have noted, only namechecked NN.
The one that just ended 12 minutes ago expanded that to âNBCND, streaming service NBCNN, NBCNews.com and wrap-up on NNâ.
Editorial decisions being made hour-by-hour.
Update: Sky UK/AU wrapped at 2:23am, ending a solid 1 hour 47 minute block of rolling coverage. The story has stagnated a bit so itâs a fine decision. The ticker remains in yellow.
Meanwhile if ABCNC closes down overnight, there would be just as much information about this story, because there is still nothing. The first time Australians will be aware of this is on Today and Sunrise (early?).
NBC donât really seem to mention NNow when doing special reports. Itâs usually either just .com or .com or Nightly, and formerly MSNBC.
And finally, for completionists sake, the 3am broadcast-only-to-ensure-the-website-updates ABC Entertains newsbreak did not mention the story. (In answer to your thing, depending on when it broke, it might get into 10âs CBS Mornings airing.)
The story broke one hour and a few minutes after its Eastern Time endtime, so it will not be seen there.
Still good to know that youâll not hear or see about this from ABC except the web.
