7 Melbourne ran 3 mins late and is returning to coverage of the police shooting at 7:15pm.
According to the ABC, the gunman is a guy who is a self-described sovereign citizen (aka a braindead moron) who apparently brought upon this ‘legal action’ against Dan Andrews as seen below:
A report on ABC News Victoria tonight also profiled the gunman, and included footage from his interview on A Current Affair in 2021.
Surprised 9 didn’t take the press conference live with the premier.

Thus begins what is certain to be a thing (again) where sections of the media plaster the suspect’s face all over the place and essentially give his cooker views a far wider platform than what it deserves. Sure, it’s only natural that there’s interest and thats fair enough, but there’s a fine line between genuine interest and glamourising an (alleged) criminal, the latter of which would no doubt be traumatising for the victims families to go through.

Tend to agree though, mind you, he is actively wanted by police at the moment and poses a public safety risk so there is some benefit to getting his face and details out there.

I would argue that the risk he poses to the public and the possibility that someone might see/ have seen him and are able to assist police is far greater ATM than any potential long term consequences. Obviously there is a fine line, but ATM, that line is very hard to define when you are comparing it to a public risk.

Police issued image this afternoon with description of build and clothing and Crime Stoppers information clearly wanting the public to be able to recognise the suspect.
You know what I think HSV-7 Melbourne should do? Suspend normal programming and go to constant round-the-clock rolling coverage of these 2 events. News events of major importance have rated higher than normal programming, Cyclone Alfred rated much higher than other programming.
