Ironically the first main channel in Brisbane to report that 2 officers were shot dead was 10. Seven has not reported this in their update and Nine’s late news is an hour away.
What time was this update?
About 9:45 pm local time so it would have been first broadcast in Sydney I expect at 9:45pm AEDT.
Meanwhile, no other main channel reports in Brisbane until SBS Late News at 10:30pm. Nine showed a sports update.
Seven Sydney/Melbourne with no late reporting as well. Update - an update from Perth aired with out of date information.
SBS:
Really bad coverage from the media IMO, with delayed coverage in QLD and no Live updates. 6News did a better job tonight.
Seven got off to an excellent start but there was no major change in the story reported after the end of the 7pm news.
10:45pm and the teaser for late news just aired on Nine. They could have got a crawler on screen to stay tuned for the late news; they manage that for storm warnings. Though I haven’t seen one of those since the change to the presentation output, so perhaps they can’t anymore.
Update:
Seven aired a an update from Perth “two police officers are feared dead”. So out of date information.
Also not exclusive vision… every news outlet is using it.
10 at the scene.
They attributed some vision that was widely used to Facebook.
really proud of our rolling coverage, managed to get the presser live, have multiple reporters on the story and be covering it when the ABC News Channel wasn’t
Good job… but in reality it just didn’t warrant rolling coverage. The ABC handled it correctly.
Sunrise - notably kept showing 7 News Exclusive caption on vision that was shown on all networks. It did initially seem exclusive last night but later appears not to be.
Today
ABC
10
Seven Brisbane the only network showing this morning’s presser. Also seen on ABC News and Sky. Also shown on Seven Sydney and Melbourne.
Isn’t it being taken in TMS?
TMS took the start of the news conference. Today Extra and Studio 10 didn’t.
Sky paid tribute to the 2 officers.
Later, Seven and ABC took the Premiere’s media conference. Also TMS AEDT took the start.
Given how it unfolded last night I’d disagree
There just wasn’t enough information (coming out) to dedicate rolling coverage last night. I would be terribly worried if the ABC/Seven/Nine dropped their regular programming to cover this. Live news updates were substantial for this news event.
How what unfolded last night? There was a single press conference three or four hours after the news first broke: hardly a rolling event.
2 police officers shot dead, multiple gunmen on the loose, exclusion zone set up - there were countless developments that broke while we were live on-air that are now being covered today
Based on what many of our viewers told us, it was coverage they were looking for too
