I think some of those buses are owned by the state government but leased to the private operators. I could be wrong.
There are also private bus companies in Sydney (e.g. CDC) which operate bus services on behalf of Transport for NSW.
That’s what I meant. I didn’t know if the buses were leased or if they provided the workers or not.
God they are stupid.
All the negatives of the scare campaign running anyway because they might do it post election, but no benefit from actually acting.
Agreed. Honestly what’s wrong with just going all in and banning it? It’s not like they’ll lose voters because of it anyway, quite the contrary particularly given the election will be on cost of living and minimising the reach of gambling will help with that somewhat. They’ve literally trashed the late Peta Murphy’s legacy which was her report on gambling.
I suspect the likes of V’Landys are pulling the strings again BTS.
Of course it is. PVL just loves the gambling.
Don’t discount the more directly impacted - both the betting and commercial media companies are very big lobbyers of Government (both directly and through lobbyists).
The inaction is a strong suggestion that whatever is going on in the background is working to get the Government to walk the reform back.
The Greens have written to Labor to offer their support for a partial ban on sports betting advertisements, after previously pushing for a full ban.
Labor has stalled on its promise to wind back gambling ads after resistance from industry, frustrating a number of its own backbenchers.
Almost two-thirds of all major sporting teams in one Australian state are receiving money from gambling companies, an ABC analysis has found, revealing a concerning and “toxic” reliance on gambling sponsorship and advertising.
Seven sporting codes and their domestic clubs were examined for any relationship or commercial partnership with gambling organisations, including casinos.
The ABC looked at publicly available information for 74 teams across the NRL, AFL, Rugby Australia, Football Australia, Cricket Australia, Netball Australia and the NBL.
Eight of the 13 teams examined in Queensland were sponsored by gambling companies, and six of the strongest commercially-viable clubs in the state — the Lions, Broncos, Dolphins, Cowboys, Titans and Suns — all had at least one gambling sponsor.
Sources inside the Labor Party say Rowland was poised to unveil long-awaited reforms after more than a year of negotiations with gambling companies, broadcasters, the AFL and NRL, and harm-reduction advocates. But Albanese stepped in late last year to put the policy on ice, effectively sidelining his senior minister and stalling one of Labor’s most anticipated communications reform packages.
Because we can’t be pissing off our lord and saviour PVL and whoever the AFL has as CEO, buggered if I can think of their name… ![]()
