Foxtel

Satellite

I got a phone call out of the blue a few months ago offering me one for free. Self install from iQ3 to iQ4. Wasn’t going to upgrade if there was a price.

I already have an IQ4 since the start of the footy season. Smooth upgrade from cable to satellite. Got the box for free.

To watch FTA you need to connect your aerial to the box via an adapter.

HBO Max is set to incorporate other networks, including WB content…

Trevor Long reports that Foxtel will be making an announcement on Wednesday about the new features. He has a couple of photos of the new Foxtel menus, which includes a Netflix app.

That’s interesting. They made such a big deal about it that I thought they’d be incorporating Netflix within the on demand library, showing titles alongside Foxtel’s own. But it’s just a shortcut to the app like Fetch, Apple TV, Android TV, etc.

HBO is owned by WarnerMedia. WarnerMedia properties include: Warner Bros, CNN, DC Comics, Cinemax, TruTv, Cartoon Network, TBS, TNT, Turner Broadcasting and more.

The parent company of WarnerMedia is AT&T which acquired Time Warner for $108.7 billion USD in 2018.

HBO content on Foxtel will likely vanish within 12-24 months.

so does that mean foxtel will eventually get rid of there linear tv channels??? as far as i know on there commercials on foxtel there saying stream now or wait till it comes to the linear tv

It’s highly likely they will but it might take a while.

I’ve been a long term customer (since 2011) and haven’t got a discount on my package yet.

There’s a popular forum on Whirlpool called “Foxtel - Bargaining” where customers ring and threaten to cancel before offering a new deal. Some customers get Platinum for $89 for 12 months for instance.

Mabey its time you quit and got that discount. hahah

thats what i pay. you don’t even need to quit. just call up and tell them you want to cancel. when they ask why tell them you think it’s not value for money. i’ve been on the $89 plan for years now and will honestly if i have to pay more i’m happy to walk.

when i renewed it a few weeks ago they wanted me to pay $99. i stuck to my guns and eventully for $89

Just got this email:

Hi My Name, you’ve been selected as one of the first to receive the New Foxtel Experience on your iQ4 this week. With this update, it’ll be even easier to discover the huge range of drama, sport, movies and lifestyle content at the touch of a button.
Are you ready?
To make sure your iQ4 can receive the New Foxtel Experience, keep your box turned on at the wall

Very interested by these hints at new $35 Platinum package.

We currently have Kayo, but if I could get Foxtel for $35p/m which includes HD, sports, movies, etc, then I would certainly make the switch.

Guess we’ll find out on Wednesday!

No one is just being given $35 packages though. You have to be an existing customer and you have to persist and haggle with the call centre disconnection team. Even then I doubt you’d get the works for $35 unless you’re some kind of long term loyal customer who has been paying the highest possible price for a long time. It’s a case-by-case thing. Most people, from what I have seen on Whirlpool, are getting a platinum package in the range of $75 to $95.

I was reading one of the threads on Whirlpool before and apparently two users who were signing up to Foxtel were offered the $35p/m platinum package.

Foxtel today unveiled The New Foxtel Experience which will provide customers with its iQ3 and iQ4 set top boxes a completely redesigned user experience, bringing together the best of TV and on demand, all in one place.

As part of the New Experience, Netflix will be available for the first time on Foxtel* starting from today for the iQ4. The move is the latest step in Foxtel’s continued aggregation of the best content and streaming services for customers to view on demand.

New Foxtel Experience Key Points

  • More on demand content than ever included in the customer’s subscription including complete series box sets.
  • Completely redesigned interface which simplifies discovering and navigating Foxtel’s 16,000 hours of TV on demand, just one-click away using the remote home button.
  • Personalised recommendations for customers based on their viewing history.
  • Integration of app-based streaming services starting with Netflix, the world’s largest video on demand streaming service. SBS On Demand will arrive as part of the New Foxtel Experience in the coming months.
  • Introduction of a sleek new Foxtel remote featuring a home button and a Netflix button, making Foxtel and Netflix content just a click away.

Patrick Delany, Foxtel CEO said: “We want our customers to have the best of TV and on demand in Australia all in one place. With our new user interface, accessing Foxtel’s 16,000 hours of TV and on demand content is as simple for customers as one-click on the home button of their existing remote control.

“I can’t think of a better streaming partner to kick off The New Foxtel Experience than Netflix.

“The new customer interface puts two entertainment powerhouses together providing Foxtel customers with access to Netflix service alongside our Foxtel Originals and programs from HBO, FX, the BBC and more.

“More than 1.1 million iQ3 and iQ4 set top boxes are already installed in our customers’ homes. Starting today, The New Foxtel Experience simplifies the way iQ4 users can enjoy Foxtel’s incredible range of drama, sport and movies as well as the best of video on demand, with the experience coming to iQ3 users coming shortly after.

“So whether customers crave Wentworth or Orange is the New Black; Lambs of God or Stranger Things; Big Little Lies or The Crown, they will find it, and more, on Foxtel.”

The New Foxtel Experience including Netflix will be progressively rolled out to iQ4 customers starting today and is expected to be complete in August. The iQ3 roll out will begin in September with all iQ3 customers expected to have The New Foxtel Experience during November.

Foxtel customers do not need to do anything to enjoy The New Foxtel Experience. Software updates will be managed remotely over the coming months and The New Foxtel Experience will work with their existing iQ4 and iQ3 set top box and remote control.
