Foxtel

Foxtel to team up with Netflix

Foxtel subscribers could soon have the option to stream Netflix programs through their pay-TV set-top boxes as it emerged that the two entertainment heavyweights are in talks over what may be an integrated offering.

A deal could be announced later this year if Foxtel follows the path of Sky TV in Britain, which in November began offering subscribers an integrated service that puts Netflix films and television series alongside its own shows in a new streaming-style show selector.

A similar deal here would see Netflix content such as The Crown and Black Mirror lining up alongside Game of Thrones and Big Little Lies . Netflix films would appear in the same streaming menu as the 1500 movie titles in FoxFlicks.

I hope they do, do something like this. Remember the whole idea of the IQ3/IQ4 layouts was so that something like this could happen.

The Daily Telegraph is reporting it as a done deal. The partnership also consists of Netflix screening season 2 of ‘Secret City’ worldwide

Foxtel needs something to pull in more subscribers after the end of Game of Thrones.

Don’t know whether it would attract many new subscribers. However, it would definitely help retain subscribers

so how would foxtel go about this would it be either added to the iq3 or iq4 like fox flicks is with a software update that would allow the app to be added or maybe a new foxtel iq and a new remote where the netflix button is on just like the telstra tv but im gessing the 1st would be more likely ?

Does anyone know how this is going to affect current premium HD subscribers? I would assume we would be paying for the Netflix separately or would it be included in the current cost?

It’s always additional. Foxtel doesn’t give freebies.

This article states that in the UK you either link your existing Netflix subscription or pay an extra ÂŁ10 to Sky.

Same in the US with ComCast

A few posts up explains the integration. Foxtel is doing a deal with Netflix titles, not integrating Netflix with the iQ.

so would be it all of the neflix catalouge?

Wendy Moore takes the helm of Foxtel’s Lifestyle brands

Foxtel today announced that leading media executive Wendy Moore has been appointed as the new General Manager of Foxtel’s Lifestyle group.

Wendy will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Foxtel’s iconic Lifestyle brand including Lifestyle, Lifestyle HOME and Lifestyle FOOD and will guide the current and future direction and commercialisation of the brands across streaming, broadcast and digital.

In addition to Foxtel Original Lifestyle programs, which include Selling Houses Australia, Grand Designs Australia , Love it Or List it , Great Australian Bake Off and the TV Week Logie-Award winning Gogglebox Australia , Wendy will also be responsible for new and continuing international acquisitions set to stream on Foxtel.

Wendy arrives at Foxtel following a 12 year tenure with Pacific Magazines where she led the growth and development of key Australian brands, such as Home Beautiful and Better Homes and Gardens , across the lifestyle category in her role as General Manager of Homes & Food.

Brian Walsh, Foxtel’s Executive Director of Television, said, “Foxtel is delighted to welcome a media executive of Wendy’s calibre and experience to the team to lead one of our most venerable and time-honoured brands, Lifestyle.

“We waited to get the leader we wanted to take the brand forward and Wendy is key to that ambition. I know that she will bring to the table an incredible wealth of lifestyle insight and knowledge, making her the ideal person to breathe new life into our Lifestyle group while maintaining the unique qualities that makes Lifestyle so loved by our viewers. I can’t wait for her to get started.”

Wendy Moore added, “Lifestyle content is my passion, and the opportunity to build on such a strong portfolio of Lifestyle brands is incredibly exciting. To join Foxtel as they are entering such an innovative period is a dream come true.”

Wendy will join Foxtel from April 29, 2019 and report to Stephen Baldwin, Director of Foxtel Networks and On Demand.

I am very surprised with Wendy’s new role. She will oversee Gogglebox meaning she will have to deal with 10. However she will also continue as House Rules judge (I reckon her starting date of April 29 is timed, to be after the filming of House Rules grand final) which could lead to some conflict of interest.

It will be an 8-part series titled Lawyer X: The Story of Informer 3838. (the informer was revealed on Friday to be lawyer Nicola Gobbo after a Victorian Court of Appeal suppression order was lifted).
According to today’s Sunday Herald Sun, Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie, Elizabeth Debicki, Asher Keddie and Naomi Watts are in the mix to play Nicola.

Foxtel’s new drama and entertainment streaming service is “highly unlikely” to be up and running by the time the final season of Game of Thrones gets underway in six weeks.

AFR is reporting Foxtel has given the green light to the service following the success of the sports streaming service Kayo.

The article cites unnamed sources as stating the search is on for an executive to lead the venture and “a lot of resources were being devoted to get it up and running” as a replacement of Foxtel Now.
