The Monarchy: A Major Royal Event on Foxtel

Royal programming and A Royal Selection Pop Up movie channel this December

Royal fever takes reign at Foxtel this December with “The Monarchy: A Major Royal Event” across Foxtel’s movie, lifestyle, entertainment and factual channels with A Royal Selection Pop Up movie channel and a range of royal themed programming.

Royal families all over the world have always intrigued the common folk for their lavish lifestyles, strict rules of etiquette, enormous castles, elite sports, gorgeous babies, and outrageous scandals. From December 1 both new and returning Royal programming will feature on many of Foxtel’s channels to celebrate the Monarchy and take a closer look at both historical and modern day British Royal family.

Foxtel Movies will host A Royal Selection, a Royal themed Pop-Up movie channel from Friday December 8 at 6am and running until the end of the day on Sunday December 10 Elizabeth (1998), Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007), The Queen (2006), Diana (2013), The King’s Speech (2010), The Madness Of King George (1994), The Young Victoria (2009), and The Duchess (2008).

Starring Hollywood superstar Cate Blanchett, Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age explores the life of a young and mature Queen Elizabeth I set throughout her reign in the 1500s. Starring Helen Mirren, The Queen shows the Royal Family’s response to the death of Princess Diana in 1997. Diana, portrayed by Naomi Watts, takes a closer look at the Princess of Wales’ final two years before her untimely death.

Academy Award-winning The Kings Speech stars Colin Firth as King George VI who, despite his debilitating speech impediment, must address his country over the radio in 1939 to declare Britain at war with Nazi Germany. The Madness of King George explores the dementia experienced by King George III in the late 1700s, also stars Helen Mirren. The Young Victoria, played by Emily Blunt, was set in the mid-1800s as Queen Victoria rose to accession. Starring Keira Knightley, The Duchess is a portrayal of Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire during the late 1700s.

HISTORY channel will exclusively premiere a new three part series, Elizabeth I and Her Enemies from December 12 on Tuesdays at 7.30pm. Actress and supermodel Lily Cole plays Elizabeth I throughout her reign, from young princess to mature queen. Dr Suzannah Lipscomb and Dan Jones, both young, dynamic historians, tell a heady tale of jealousy, treachery, ambition and tragedy alongside the lavish dramatisations that transport audiences back to the key clashes that shaped Elizabeth and England. Starting from the day she was born, until the day she died, Elizabeth was surrounded by enemies who threatened her crown and her life. From her sister Mary Tudor to her thwarted lover, King Philip of Spain, Elizabeth’s struggles, animosities and assassination attempts are analysed in detail.

Starting on Saturday December 2 at 6.30pm and continuing each week throughout the month, Lifestyle will show its highest rating Royal specials starting with 40 Years of the Princes Trust, The Royal Good Guys, two part special The Princes Vision, and Diana: A Quiet Revolution. Lifestyle Food will show two weeks of Royal Recipes at 11.30am weekdays from Monday December 4. Learn all about the real Royal Recipes with presenter Michael Buerk from coronation feasts, to family favourites, to Will and Kate’s wedding menu and their extravagant cake, and everything in between.

The Royal Variety Performance 2017, a gala evening held annually in the United Kingdom and attended by senior members of the British Royal Family, is exclusive to UKTV this December. Queen Elizabeth II and the Prince of Wales have alternately attended the performance for the last few years. The evening’s performance is a variety show consisting of family entertainment, including comedy, singing, dancing, magic and other speciality acts, and many of the performers and hosts are celebrities.

Popular BBC First drama Victoria will exclusively premiere a Christmas Special in December Express from the UK. Victoria’s second season came to a dramatic close but fans of the series may be shocked in the one-hour special. Despite the festive family celebrations, this could be the winter when Victoria’s (Jenna Coleman) husband Prince Albert (Tom Hughes) finally succumbs to a deathly illness.

Royal titles on HISTORY channel throughout December include:
• Guarding the Queen – Sundays from December 10 until December 24 at 5.30pm

The draft gambling provisions of the Code are open for public comment until 22 December 2017. They must be approved by the Australian Communications and Media Authority before they come into effect in March 2018.

Comments from the public can be submitted to ASTRA either by post to 5 Thomas Holt Drive, North Ryde, NSW, 2113, or email to admin@astra.org.au.

Looks like they’re really pushing the content over summer.

This could have some impact on the FTA networks who continue to ignore viewers over summer and take a long break from scheduling anything decent.

This may seem like an odd question, but I came across something tonight that I haven’t seen before and was wondering whether it was normal.

I live in an apartment, so use Foxtel Now rather than having any physical Foxtel connection.

Tonight while visiting family I was flicking through channels on their Foxtel box and noticed a programme was airing on SBS on channel 104, that I wanted to watch. As the channel wasn’t in HD, I decided to flick back to 030 to view the programme in HD only to find that it wasn’t airing on the HD FTA version.

I had a look at the EPG and noticed that SBS on 104, was broadcasting to an AEDT schedule, while the FTA transmission on 030 on the Foxtel box was broadcasting on a 1-hour delayed AEST schedule.

I then flicked through and noticed all the ABC/SBS channels/multi-channels were on an AEDT schedule, 1-hour ahead of the local FTA broadcast.

Is this normal? I wasn’t aware that people with a Foxtel box could actually watch programming on these channels 1-hour earlier than the FTA broadcast.

yeah ABC2 (at least) has been like this for years when daylught saving kicks in

i think it only happens during daylight savings living in Victoria i havent taken much notice

i’m starting to question the value of foxtel now. in the last year they have merged smooth and arts, dropped Foxtel You, dropped multiple channels from foxtel tunes and what have we had added? TRT (hillsong and sonlife were added oct 13 last year)

we still don’t have sky UK on it’s own channel or NASA TV

NASA TV is free on the internet and it’s easy to find a live stream of Sky News UK on YouTube. No need for Foxtel for those channels.
