Foxtel

You can subscribe to Lifestyle for $8, i’m pretty sure it’s ad free (at-least the on-demand content)

WBD have already said that from next year they’re going it alone to launch MAX here. This will include the HBO content. Foxtel will able to have the app on Hubbl. But there’s not content deal available to have on linear channels.

Has there been something officially announced with regards to WBD launching MAX in Australia?

Looking at the comments, the only person upset about this is TV black box.

Probably part of the strategy to milk as much money as possible from pay tv for as long as possible while at the same time pushing people to binge

That’s simply not true. Internally it’s not been decided yet.

And to effectively force people to cancel so they can switch off the satellite

How did you get that from the article?

Find it interesting that the expiry date for House of the Dragon on Foxtel Go is Feb 2027, The White Lotus is April 2027 but Game of Thrones and Succession expire on Dec 31 this year. I guess they’ll have some HBO content for a couple years yet.

Removal of content and price hikes are a quite obvious Strat to make Foxtel’s as profitable as possible and ride the gravy train as long as possible peeling every cent out of those legacy subs they can whilst at the same time prepping the life rafts and pushing people to binge

I’m surprised they didn’t keep all the bbc content for binge - but I guess Australian and us content tends to have more appeal then BBC branded stuff on binge which skews younger than foxtel

They’ve retained access to UKTV (which is the more popular of the BBC channels)

Unwatchable being SD still. Yes, I am old fashioned and prefer linear channels on big screen at home.

I’m pretty sure Patrick Delany has expressly stated that is the strategy.

Foxtel are also losing The History Channel and Crime + Investigation.

A good opportunity for Fetch to pick these up.

FMD they may as well pack up and go home.

They’ll be left with religious channels and a few entertainment channels and sports.

Looks, like I’ll be giving away my Hubble to the bin. No way I’m paying more for less.

Would never have bought that hobbled Hubbl in the first place.

It’s really becoming a nothing proposition regarding the linear channels. I get that people want streaming and on demand but the channels act as content shop fronts and support the lazy viewer who can’t be bothered searching for something to watch.

They’ll begin to lose even more subscribers as they keep pushing to kayo and binge. Some people don’t want streaming services like that. Binge is not a very good service and kayo has been created by stealth. The fox sports channels are shadows of their former selves. The foxtel eco system is a disaster.

Not to mention the contract price Foxtel pays to the AFL goes up massively next year. If that translates into a price rise for Kayo, they will start shedding customers there too, not having gained many new customers this year. And this is before NRL negotiations have started. Foxtel is entering a world of pain for sure.
