Foxtel

What renewal? Isn’t it all but confirmed Max is on it’s way?

Dumping the BBC contract will also mean a further reduction to Foxtel’s children’s channels. With ABC ME’s closure and ABC Entertains now alongside ABC Kids/ABC Family, Only Cartoon Network, Boomerang, and Dreamworks Channel will remain in August.

Looks like HBO and live sports (NRL, AFL, cricket, UFC and boxing on Main Event, etc.) are keeping Foxtel alive for the time being.

Would Cartoon Network and Boomerang be removed once Max launches?

Diabolical for Foxtel children’s services.

Barely, by the looks of it. Seems like it’s on life support.

That would seem likely based on previous instances.

I only watch the AFL and NRL on the channels nothing else. All US sport is via their streaming services

Me too, mostly NRL… There’s not much else going for it now.

Losing BBC First could be good for ABC with several of the shows that are also seen on ABC premiere first on Foxtel, so ABC might get first run rights again. Though having the second window rights doesn’t seem to impact the ratings.

Not necessarily. Stan and (more increasingly) Britbox have acquired first run rights for BBC dramas in Australia.

I wonder if Telstra will be next to exit Foxtel and focus on building Fetch.

Make Fetch the like a Hubbl 2.0?

FOXTEL is fast becoming less of a paytv business and more of a content provider in terms of sports coverage and streaming apps providing content like lifestyle and some drama content alongside sports and news.

I don’t think this is a huge shock when the traditional service is becoming less of a focus and the bbc content probably not the biggest selling point of streaming products

Seems inevitable to me that come 2031 Foxtel will wind up its satellite service when the current deal ends with Optus.

Think they see their future being in content aggregation (such as through Hubbl) and their streaming services.

BBC have no loyalty to ABC anymore, long gone. BBC will sell to whoever pays with more cash.

Isn’t Hubbl like a Fetch 2.0?

From Telstra’s perspective Fetch is probably T-Box 3.0

Seems cutting BBC contract is Foxtel giving itself more cash to try and keep HBO? Without HBO/WBD and BBC, that only leaves a smattering of NBC Universal. Is that right? Will Foxtel have much content to even fill FOX8 unless it goes 24/7 Taskmaster? Other Fox channels like Classics and 111 etc have very little fresh content, just endless repeats, can’t believe anyone watches those, not worth sustaining Foxtel if HBO/WBD and BBC goes?

Even as UKTV is staying owing to a separate longer contract, any news if that is also cut when that contract ends? In the meantime, will UKTV go back to being HD, which it briefly was before BBC First commenced?
