Availability on iQ3 is still to come.
I might be wrong, but i don’t think the iQ3 supports IP channels?
Although the iQ3 didn’t (when I still had it) support IP channels, it did support start over. So you could effectively watch a Foxtel channel over IP using Start Over then fast forwarding to nearly the current position in the program.
I don’t know why they didn’t implement full channels over IP.
So with Foxtel now using IP for free to air on iQ4/5 , I imagine FTA will no longer be available via satellite before too long (for iQ2/3 and non iQ Pace STB boxes if there’s still any of those left).
There are still iQ2 satellite boxes in use.
The problem is that if you switch to iQ4 or 5, you lose connectivity via composite/component/SCART. Some people still use this, e.g. to connect a TV and a DVD recorder/VCR…
Wow, that’s a throwback to the 00s. it’s been a long time since I’ve heard composite, component and SCART inputs mentioned!
You might be right though, maybe still some CRTs or old flat screens in use that don’t have any or limited HDMI connectivity.
Foxtel have a plan to phase the IQ2 out, I’m not too sure what the deadline is but it will definitely be going, and the only entry level boxes will be IQ3,4 & 5 and up. As far as I’m aware the ability to connect a DVD recorder was turned off a long time ago. I first got Foxtel way back in 2014 with a Iq2 that still had the av button on the remote but the ability to do this was disabled by then.
Does anyone know, are the IP feeds of Channel 7 on Foxtel the same as the ones on 7Plus (i.e. with the AFL blacked out?). Or are they a separate feed relaying the terrestrial signal via the IP network?
Yes AFL blacked out. Having the IP feeds are a great addition especially in regional areas IQ5 is a handy box.
I think regional areas would be better off with the terrestrial tuner option (as it used to be), that way they have local channels, ads and news and no need to rely on fast enough internet.
Thats shit if that’s the only option for some viewers to access Channel 7 and if it’s being promoted by Foxtel as the original live channel for 7.
On demand content reduced too. No NASCAR, IPL or MotoGP qualifying
Sky NZ’s sports lineup is so much better than the UK and Australia.
Sky Sport 1-8 is just so clean compared to Sky Sports Arena, Fox Footy etc.
I like the idea of dedicating the channels to a particular sport (or type of sport), but the reality is that the content just isn’t there the support it. During the off-season, the Fox football channels are just a sea of repeats (with minimal first-run content).
The Stan app turned up on my IQ5 box today
Same with the IQ4.
You can select between antenna and IP feeds for FTA channels like Nine, ABC in settings etc so there isn’t double ups - but can’t do it for Channel 7. So annoying.
Maybe I’ve not been paying attention but it looks like Sky News Weather and Sky News Extra have been quietly upgraded to HD (at least on IP through IQ5 and Hubbl).
