Telstra no longer taking new sign ups for Foxtel from Telstra as of today.

Only temporary

Wonder if there’s backroom negotiations at the moment about the future of Foxtel being sold by Telstra now that they (Telstra) have bought out a competitor (Fetch), and Foxtel launching their own streaming devices (via Hubbl) and thus coming into direct competition.

Wouldn’t surprise me if this ends up becoming a permanent thing if the relationship between Foxtel and Telstra has indeed started to break down since Telstra’s decision to buy a stake in Fetch.

Surely you’d have to think that’s why they’ve (temporarily) put a hold on new subscribers through them directly.

Foxtel have changed their pricing structure.

Base Packs

Foxtel Plus - $70 (combines the old Foxtel Plus, Kids, and Favorites)

Foxtel Plus with Netflix - $85

Add Ons

Sports - $30

Movies - $25

Multiroom and HD fees have disappeared from the price guide, so I assume they’re included.

Platinum Plus is also listed at $140, so no discount there.

Probably explains why Telstra would “temporarily” stop selling packages.

So no worth those costs. Wowsers.

$100 a month (when not in a special deal) for what would almost have to be the fewest sports in the history of Foxtel’s existence (apart from maybe the very start). That’s insane.

I have League Pass, NHL.TV and NFL Game Pass. More content and better than ESPN for my Australian summer US sports fix. Only watch AFL, NRL and Cricket plus horse racing on Foxtel

Those things are not really comparable.
ESPN is not built as an all-encompassing service to show every game of American sport.

What the hell?? That is absurd. No way it can start at that price…

Looks like they’re removing SciFi and Movies Thriller channels at the end of the month as well.

More value for money I guess

At this point it feels like they’re just pushing the price up and reducing content to make the value proposition even worse and keep pushing people off the service.

It’s more like push the price up and make as much money as you can, while you still can because everyone is going to streaming instead so the end is near.

So overpriced for little value.

Haven’t found anything at Foxtel website on why Foxtel are axing both channels. Do the closures mean SciFi and thriller genre movies and TV shows will be spread across other channels?

It’s like FOXTEL want to get rid of the satellite.

I wonder how much it’s costing them to keep the satellite going vs the cost of streaming servers. Its sounding like streaming is cheaper to operate?

They won’t even deliver MTV 90’s and MTV 00’s to TV.
