Foxtel

Aren’t there install costs? Do landlords expect the tenant to fork out for install costs?

Me too and i’ve signed up

Why not, it is something that the tenant wants.

Glad you’re not my landlord. It adds value to their property tho

Got the October Foxtel Magazine delivered today & on the front cover it says Claim your complimentary box upgrade now & the next page says It’s time to upgrade your box. So I guess I’m in line to receive a IQ 5 or IQ 4, since I’ve still got a IQ 2, which I received back in 2017 after the Austar Mystar box finally died.

I wanted to ask the question?

Would it be possible for me to upgrade my parents foxtel box (iQHD) from 2013 to a iQ4 or iQ5 (when released?)

My mother is a legacy customer of what was Austar, but we got the box through Telstra when they signed up for an ADSL +2 bundle at the time for Internet as well.

The box has nothing wrong with it, just that NBN has been on premise for a few years now, and a new (long time coming) Telstra Smart Modem Gen2, the box has no features usable or useful any more.

Now, with the plan my parents have with Telstra, it would cost pretty much the same if they are to remove foxtel from it. I’m just trying to justify, that with the Unlimited Internet bundle we have, the box is useless.

I’m planning to go in and visit my local Telstra store to see about an upgrade, (got the box when we moved into this house, 2013) and to anyone asking, yes, we have a Telstra TV 1st gen, but it’s in need of an upgrade as well, been failing since I set it up out of the box.

Bottom line is…
Any point in justifying with Telstra over the plan of Unlimited Internet and Foxtel, with a featureless box, to upgrade?

I’m open to all suggestions.

Defiantly call them up & let them know your looking to upgrade your parents old IQ Box to an IQ4 or IQ5.

If they try to charge you for it, explain your a legacy customer & been loyal & you then threaten to cancel if they can’t help & they 90% of the time give you it free or heavily discounted.

Goodluck!

Serious question.

How long do I need to have had Foxtel to be a legacy customer?

I have been with them since 2011 on the IQ4 currently. Approaching 10 years

Well, my parents got Austar in early 2010 (MyStarHD), had it til 2012, then we moved and got foxtel through Telstra in 2013 right after we moved in. Around 12 years in their records.

Believe me, we’ve had to use this when we upgraded the modem a few years ago, story time.

We moved in with no phone line into the house, about 3 months later, tech came and put the line in, and setup the modem (Telstra Gateway Max (TG799vac)).

Great modem, then 2 years later, NBN came, installed there box, move the line and fiber to the home office, and setup a new modem (Telstra T-Gateway (TG797n v3))

Now, we got a Telstra TV with that 2nd modem as well, but was crap on its 2.4Ghz only band, so I brought mum into Telstra and she needed to sort out other things with them, but I jumped in and told them about our internet situation, and the bloke was fantastic, said he’ll take care of it.
Nothing came of it in 2 week, walked back in, explained, and they said again, they’ll take care of it, 3 weeks, nothing, last time I went in, I may have not been too friendly at the start, but they understood what I was on about, and finally, not even 4 days later, arrived, set it up, works fine.

Still pees me off about the legacy thing, but some do get through to them, eventually.
Guess we give lucky with who we spoke too.

Is this even a thing? Or is it just a big myth that everyone keeps believing?

Well I have had Foxtel since the Austar days in 2005, I have only ever had 3 boxes in 16 years & I am apparently a Foxtel diamond member.

Not sure who, but someone else on here said they’ve had foxtel since it started or just after launch, anyway.

They want to upgrade, foxtel told them to pay for a new iQ4.

Not much care it put with legacy and foxtel.

Brilliant modem/router. I got mine through Telstra when I had no choice but to sign up with them due to ongoing line issues at a rental I had. Two households later and I still use it, this time on Aussie Broadband.

My Dad has been subscribed to Foxtel since the mid to late 1990s. I found this older booklet in storage a few years back:

I also found this tape too:

After a quick search, found the full video:

It was a great modem, but I was pissed with the downgrade to the T-Gateway, (a modem that’s been around since the Premium BigPond ADSL Gateway).

Still got both TG799 and TG797 in my possession.
Stated a collection of BigPond/Telstra modems, have around 20 so far.

I bought one on eBay a while ago on the recommendation of someone and did nothing with it! - can you de-Telstrafy it?

I also have 3 or 4 of Telstra’s worst modem - the Telstra Business Smart Modem - everytime you ring Telstra Business with an internet issue, their first response is to send a new modem
