Foxtel

Yep I’m getting all channels. The service is the exact same as satellite. Fox Classics is definitely there. Even the Foxtel Store and MainEvent.

Are you able to post some pictures for us all at some stage?

I just find it hilarious that Foxtel (namely the Murdochs) pushed hard to cobble Labor’s all-fibre NBN to thwart the take up of Netflix and the like, and now, not only is Netflix part of the Foxtel experience, a lightning fast NBN is a necessity for their latest platform to work.

Thanks. Took a bit of convincing (my address incorrectly is listed as satellite available despite their own techs previously confirming satellite is impossible…telling the sales rep that I’ll wait until general availability next year made them more keen to make a sale today) but I’ve ordered an IQ5 box and it’s apparently due on Monday.

Yep, if only people had told them that! The one thing that has saved them is the fact that technology and streaming has improved over the time so that it could work better on lower bandwidth connections because of the mess we were set to endure. They’re lucky that change and development has happened in the last decade because otherwise they’d be stuffed.

Some shots of the box set up + what it looks like on your TV eg, menu, layout etc.

Don’t mind the bad cable management. Still sorting out my new lounge room. Notice how bad the channel logos come up when channel switching. Super low resolution which is really noticeable on a 4K display. Also, every time you press red to start a program over it will have a notification telling you the picture may be in SD if you have slow internet. There seems to be a lot of warning about slow internet and SD, but SD picture never really lasts more than half a second.

When package came, the IQ5 was packaged completely separately to the hard drive. Assume an indication that when you can order this box through self service the HDD will be a separate add-on.

Also regarding the speed test, I get 100/40. Foxtel connection seems to max out at 50mbps.

Setting up your iQ.pdf (736.1 KB)

And this is the welcome note you get. If you’d like anything else I can try. Tried to video channel switching but it didn’t upload. Also, I’m not sure if this is normal for all the IQ3 & 4, but the IQ5 interface and notes rarely mention IQ5, they just call it the IQ. I do remember this was different for the IQ2. The lights on the IQ also don’t change, there’s not indication you’re recording, watching a recording or a stream or anything. But the blue light turns orange if you don’t have Foxtel signal.

The Foxtel Group today announced that, together with its shareholders News Corp and Telstra, it will host a live-streamed Strategy Day to provide an update on the Group’s strategy, transformation and financial performance.

The presentation will be held on Thursday September 30th from 10:30am - 12pm AEST. It’ll be repeated the following morning in order to accommodate those in the US who want to attend.

Why are they still not promoting the IQ5 on the Foxtel website?

Awesome pictures!

Thank you for posting

Living in an apartment building that doesn’t allow satellite installation, I’d seriously consider giving Foxtel ago if I could get an IQ5.

A better option would be for Foxtel to have an app for the Apple TV. Seems like every other country in the world can watch pay tv via this method by Australia.

If your building doesn’t allow for satellite, they’ll probably let you have IQ5…but if their address database suggests you should be able to get satellite and they haven’t previously sent out a tech who said it was impossible, then you might have to go in to battle with their sales reps.

It took me about an hour to convince them that a tech had previously been, nothing had changed, and their database was wrong, and I had to rebuff their offer along the way to sign me up to IQ4 and change to IQ5 if the installation tech found satellite wasn’t an option. That took weeks of back and forth with Foxtel and the landlord last time and I’m not going through that again!

Query for those that know the Foxtel Go app better than me.

Was just having a wander through it, and found a couple of shows under the “shows you may like” eg All the Sins. The thing I noticed is that instead of where the regular channel logo is, eg Showcase, BBC First; it says World Drama - but I’m not familiar with that channel.

Is it just an online branding of non English languauge shows buried in the app, or is/was there an actual channel previously?

Surprised they haven’t updated the Foxtel logo on the app yet.

Yeah, that is a bit weird. Seems to be just a category rather than any channel that has ever existed - maybe just to differentiate the non-English language shows as you said.

All the Foxtel apps are a mess in terms of branding right now. Foxtel Go and the My Foxtel app both use the lower case logo, although My Foxtel uses the original orange colour while Go uses the pink colour they switched to. They’ve updated the app picture they use to advertise Go but they haven’t updated the actual app yet which could be confusing for new users. Then the Foxtel Guide app uses the branding package before the lowercase logo one, with the horizontal slide look. A mess.
