Foxtel 4K

All other races will be in 4K this year

The F1 race will not be shown live in 4K because the channel is broadcasting game 2 of ODI series between Australia and New Zealand from the SCG (session 2 clashes with the GP). The only live F1 coverage in 4K is practice 1 this Friday and practice 3 this Saturday.
The good news is that the F1 qualifying and the race itself will be replayed in 4K next Monday (March 16) from 6.30pm AEDT.

They have two 4k channels now - they could have used Ch 400 for the Grand Prix

Problem is Ch400 is the designated 4K movies channel. If it is used to show live sports, won’t other people complain?

Why can’t it be used for both?

The Foxtel Movies 4K channel has already shown other content - it aired the Fire Fight concert a few weeks ago

So Ch400 is for 4K movies and entertainment purposes.

Why? they took over ch 400 for Fire Fight Australia and that was for 10hrs!

Foxtel has revealed the AFL and NRL matches that will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 4K (channel 508) over the next four weeks (subject to change):

Fox Sports Ultra HD channel will close next Monday after more than two years of operation, leaving Foxtel Movies (channel 400) as the only dedicated 4K channel in the line-up.

Well, That didn’t last long. Guess there will be no 4k NRL or AFL this year. :sob:

There will be 4K AFL and NRL this year but the delivery method will be different. This post should give you the answers.

Sky in the UK is doing this too

So is all their 4k coverage going to be streaming-only? Or are they going to do pop up type channels?

Streaming only as in Exclusive to kayo? Or are they finally adding Kayo exclusive sports to Foxtel Iq3/4/5?

According to Foxtel, it will be delivered by satellite (and streamed for iQ5 customers not satellite-connected) - 4k content will be accessible via a notification on content that is available in 4k.

I get the impression that the “extra space” that FOXTEL is referring to from 11 March means that there might be capacity to offer two or more 4K sport feeds over satellite at the same time but wouldn’t necessarily be full time 4K channels as such.

I am not sure if you can get live sports in 4K through Kayo?

No you can’t.
