Fox Sports

Seems like the same deal with formula 1 race in Melbourne. That for the simulcast fox need to show tens ads. Clearly there must be a revenue share ageeement or ten get all the advertising revenue with a guarantee to advertisers to show the ads on pay tv as well.

This sort of shit simply shouldnt happen - this is frustrating

It would appear that the NBL are now doing their own production and supplying a feed to Fox Sports - unlike before where Fox produced it. Really not sure about it, the scoreboard in particular (complete with fake LED scoreboard effect) is quite hideous, not to mention out of sync.

Far cry from the minimalist look Fox had last year, which matched their graphics for their other sports.

Wonder why Fox Sports decided to let someone with less experience than them take control, and why it’s not a similar setup to the AFL, where they produce a feed that goes out to Seven, and just remove all Fox branding?

The original contract Fox signed with the NBL allowed it to be ‘reviewed’ after the first season which is how the changes to the production could be introduced this year.

The most logical answer to your question is Fox saves money not having to produce the broadcasts whilst having live content on multiple nights of the week to air during Summer aside from the A-League

Looks like it’s the same set up as the previous netball deal where it was produced externally. Goes out live on fox and live on the NBL app.

Fox seem to be supplying the commentators through Warren Smith, Anthony Hudson, Dwayne Russell etc.

The graphics are hideous. Although the camera work seems to be pretty good. New angles etc.

Really do hate it when they produce the sports externally. The NBL graphics are too 3D imo, even the full screen scoreboard looks like something from NBA2K games.

Last years graphics from FOX were so much nicer!

Not to mention that the score goes up in increments of 1, and there’s no stats line like last year!

Their camerawork is quite nice though, I’ll give the NBL that. Do wonder how its going down with those at Fox Sports whose role it is to make sure that what is being shown on their network is up to their standards. Maybe them and the NBL could’ve shared the production costs and that would’ve allowed Fox to have more input?

It is good to see the competition get a big boost in exposure though, that TEN/ONE deal just about killed them. It’s a long road to even come close to the A-League and cricket in terms of popularity and attendance levels, but its a good start.

I just noticed how bad the ratings are for the NBL on fox sports. It’s a complete disaster really. Extraordinarily niche sport.

They need free to air exposure.

No one subscribes to Foxtel for the NBL and the NBL won’t ever get a fanbase without exposure to a wider audience in the first place.

They had 3 years of FTA exposure in Ten/One. It nearly killed them.

They need a couple of marquee players from the NBA. What’s Kobe Bryant doing these days?

Edit: 30k isn’t that bad? Considering the cost of NBL rights compared to A-League I think Fox would probably be happy with that. Defientely improving and crowd numbers are way up. Fox Sports should be investing more into it.

Counting his millions of dollars.

Fox Sports has picked up the rights to Kellogg’s Ironman and Ironwoman Series, meaning it will be shown live after several years of delayed coverage on Nine (some events are shown weeks or months after they have been held). The bad news is the number of events has been slashed from six to just three, all to be held at Cronulla in Sydney, over one weekend next February.

Another local summer sport that has declined badly.

Locally, cricket is miles ahead of anything with tennis a close second and Fox Sports has neither. They need to find a FTA partner (due to anti-siphoning) and pay up most of the share for cricket rights.

Why can’t cricket just Saturday free to air. Not everything needs to be on fox.

Too bad that channel struggles to be seen by anyone except someone who accidentally hits the red button during the darts or snooker.

Phil Rothfield is tipping that Nine’s Yvonne Sampson is about to sign with Fox Sports new NRL channel.

Aside from cash, what’s the benefit for Sampson to join Fox? I can understand the move if Nine are planning to jettison her from the main anchor position to accommodate Cameron Williams’ returning to his former role. If no change is made though, being able to anchor the four biggest NRL events each year in State of Origin and the Grand Final coverage is an opportunity Fox can’t give her aside from presenting pre/post-game coverage like how Fox Footy covers the AFL GF.
