His Dark Materials - Season 2 promo

HIS DARK MATERIALS RETURNS TO FOXTEL FOR SEASON 2

HBO have released the first trailer for the highly anticipated second season of the hit series His Dark Materials .

Joining the cast are Andrew Scott as Colonel John Parry – and, in an exciting addition to the cast, Scott’s Fleabag co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge will lend her voice and play Parry’s daemon.

Based on author Philip Pullman’s beloved trilogy, His Dark Materials follows Lyra, a brave young woman from another world. Lyra’s quest to find her kidnapped friend leads her to uncover a sinister plot of a secret organization, encounter extraordinary beings and protect dangerous secrets.

His Dark Materials is an HBO production and is exclusive in Australia to Foxtel. The entire first season is available to stream on Foxtel.

However the second season will only have seven episodes after COVID-19 forced production to be shut down.

Luckily that 1 episode that has been cut was seperate from the rest of the story so it won’t affect the conclusion of the seasons storyline.

The Vow: A Portrait of NXIVM

From Sunday 20 September at 8.30pm

The Vow , a nine-part documentary series directed by Emmy®-winning and Academy award nominated Jehane Noujaim and Karim Amer, debuts on Sunday, September 20 at 8.30pm AEST, with new episodes airing every Sunday, to stream on Foxtel or watch on Fox Showcase.

The Vow follows a number of people deeply involved in the controversial self-improvement group NXIVM over the course of several years. With remarkable access to insiders and former members, it takes an in depth look at the organisation faced with various charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, against its highest members – most notably founder Keith Raniere, who was convicted in June 2019 and is currently awaiting sentencing.

Amidst claims by NXIVM participants of both profound transformation and devastating abuse, the series seeks to reveal the issues behind the headlines and explore the emotional toll of unfolding events on these individuals, who hoped to lead better lives and change the world with Raniere’s espoused humanitarian philosophy.

NXIVM was founded in 1998 by Keith Raniere and Nancy Salzman. Within a few years, the company grew into an influential, international organization with thousands of members, including accomplished executives, Hollywood stars, wealthy heirs and the children of political dynasties.

The project was personal for Noujaim, who, in 2010, attended Executive Success Programs, NXIVM’s flagship seminar, and explored making a film about the experience. Over the years, she kept in touch with the people she’d met. In 2017, whispers of a controversial secret sorority emerged, and several high-ranking members defected. Noujaim and Amer began filming, not knowing where the story would lead.

HBO documentary Outside the Bubble premieres on Fox Showcase on October 28.

The new season of His Dark Materials is set to premiere on Fox Showcase in mid November.

Crazy, Not Insane

Wednesday 25 November at 8.30pm

Stream on FOXTEL and watch on FOX SHOWCASE

The gripping new HBO documentary Crazy, Not Insane gets deep inside the mind of the serial killer and debuts on Wednesday, November 25 at 8.30pm AEDT, available to watch on FOX SHOWCASE and stream on FOXTEL.

Directed and produced by Academy Award®-winner Alex Gibney ( The Inventor: Out For Blood in Silicon Valley ), Crazy, Not Insane follows psychiatrist Dr. Dorothy Otnow Lewis , who has dedicated her career to looking beyond the grisly details of homicides and into the hearts and minds of the killers themselves.

An official selection of the 2020 Venice International Film Festival, the documentary profiles Dr. Lewis and her research, includes videotaped death row interviews, and examines the formative experiences and neurological dysfunction of such infamous murderers as Arthur Shawcross and Ted Bundy, challenging the very notion of evil and proposing that murderers are made not born. Other high-profile convicted murderers and death row inmates assessed by Dr. Lewis include Mark David Chapman, David Wilson, Marie Moore and Joseph Paul Franklin.

A well-respected psychiatrist and author, Dr. Lewis began her career working with children. Her exposure to the testimony of childhood abuse led her to explore the way that trauma in childhood – often coupled with some neurological damage – can sow the seeds of murderous impulses in adults.

Among Dr. Lewis’s most well-known cases is Arthur Shawcross, who was convicted in 1991 for the murder of eleven women. While Lewis’s videotaped exchanges with Shawcross show him inhabiting the alters of his vengeful mother and a 13th century cannibal, Shawcross was found sane and guilty in a trial by jury. Lewis was also one of the last people to interview Ted Bundy just before his execution. In an audiotape featured in the film, Bundy was unusually candid with the psychiatrist, revealing new details that upend the conventional wisdom about him.

Gibney uses an eclectic mix of cinema verité, videotapes of psychiatric evaluations, hand-drawn animation and home movies in order to explore the complexities of the human mind. Lewis’ literary voice is read by actress Laura Dern ( Big Little Lies ) to bring further insight into Lewis’ career and her cases through her writings.

Crazy, Not Insane is an HBO Documentary Film and Jigsaw Production. It is available to watch on FOX SHOWCASE and to stream for FOXTEL subscribers On Demand via internet connected IQ boxes, on smartphones and tablets using the FOXTEL GO app and via FOXTEL NOW.

ALLEN v. FARROW

Monday 22 February at 1.00pm

FOXTEL will premiere the four-part HBO docuseries ALLEN v. FARROW , from award-winning investigative filmmakers Kirby Dick, Amy Ziering and Amy Herdy, express from the U.S. on Monday, February 22 at 1.00pm, with episodes airing weekly on FOX SHOWCASE and On Demand .

The revealing docuseries goes behind decades of sensational headlines to reveal the private story of one of Hollywood’s most notorious and public scandals: the accusation of sexual abuse against Woody Allen involving Dylan, his then seven-year-old daughter with Mia Farrow; their subsequent custody trial, the revelation of Allen’s relationship with Farrow’s daughter, Soon-Yi; and the controversial aftermath in the years that followed.

Once celebrated for their on-partnership both on and off screen, Farrow and Allen’s lives were irrevocably fractured and their sprawling family torn apart with the public disclosure of the abuse allegations and the vitriolic disputes that followed.

This gripping series interweaves new investigative work, meticulously pieced together via intimate home movie footage, court documents, police evidence, revelatory videotape and never-before-heard audio tapes, combined with exclusive, in-depth interviews on the subject with Mia Farrow, Dylan Farrow, Ronan Farrow, family friend Carly Simon, prosecutor Frank Maco, relatives, investigators, experts and other first-hand witnesses – many speaking publicly about the events for the first time.

The series also includes prominent cultural voices exploring Allen’s body of work in a broader context and reflecting on how public revelations about the personal lives of artists can lead to re-evaluations of their work.

ALLEN v. FARROW includes an intimate look at Farrow and Allen’s charmed courtship and emergence as one of Hollywood’s power couples, making thirteen influential films together over a decade. Over time, Allen becoming a father figure to Farrow’s children as well as their shared children. Yet, threaded throughout their professional success and personal achievements there were dark undercurrents at play.

The docuseries examines the shattering effects of trauma on a family – and is a haunting depiction of the scepticism and backlash that can result from an accusation.

Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering’s groundbreaking films have profoundly impacted American institutions and culture, resulting in sweeping policy changes and far-reaching national discussions. Their work has been recognized by every major film and television award including: two Oscar nominations, an Emmy® and a Peabody.
