Fox had an ad with Dusty about a ‘Fox footy call up” for super Saturday. Looks like that’s what the meeting with Dusty & Fox was about
The ad was about a competition Fox Footy is running to find someone from the public to join them. Martin may be joining them but the ad by Jack Riewoldt sort of takes the piss out of Dusty.
Impressive showing for radio given the question was “which Friday Night broadcast will you be watching”
Kayo Sports has launched a nationwide talent search to find the next Fox Footy on-air star who will feature on the new-look Super Saturday LIVE coverage in 2025.
If i’m already paying for kayo / foxtel its a no brainer to watch fox - no adverts for starters
No ads, no BT and in 4k for all games. Ultimate trifecta for me.
A commentary free stream would be great!
Why not just turn down the sound?
would rather hear the game than endless dribble from muppets
As announced exclusively by Mark Howard on “The Big Break” as part of Australia vs India on Fox Cricket, Adam Simpson, former 2x North Melbourne premiership player and West Coast Eagles premiership coach will join Fox Footy in 2025 in an expert commentary role. He will be a part of the Perth team for games and will “be a part of the shows in the east”.
Adam Simpson will be a busy man as he will also co-host SEN WA Breakfast on Mondays, contribute to various SEN shows during the week, and provide expert commentary to AFL Nation coverage during next season.
Fox Footy will show the 2024 W Awards live from Crown Palladium in Melbourne tomorrow (Monday) at 7.30pm AEDT. It will include the presentation of this year’s AFLW best and fairest, the All-Australian Team, the Telstra Rising Star, and the mark and goal of the year.
Having qualified for this Saturday’s AFLW Grand Final, Lions players and officials will hold their own function at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on the night.

Fox Footy Makes Another Move, Signing Premiership Player and Coach Adam Simpson
Former West Coast Eagles Premiership coach Adam Simpson has committed to Fox Footy as an expert analyst for season 2025, adding his name to the growing suite of talent joining the new-look broadcast next year.
In the last month it has been confirmed Shaun Burgoyne, Tom Hawkins and Leigh Matthews will all suit up for Fox Footy, meanwhile Gerard Whateley will join Anthony Hudson as the dynamic duo calling Friday night matches.
The changes are not just restricted to game day, with Garry Lyon stepping into the AFL 360 hot-seat as co-host while Jack Riewoldt will steer the ship On The Couch each week.
Simpson – who played 306 games for North Melbourne and coached 242 games for West Coast – announced the news live on Fox Cricket, during Day 1 of the Australia v India Perth Test.
Simpson said, “It feels like I have been drafted again. I’m really excited to join the team and look forward to getting started with Fox Footy.”
It has been confirmed that Fox Footy – available on Kayo Sports and Foxtel – will be the ONLY place to watch AFL exclusively live on Saturday’s nationally for the first eight rounds of the home and away season.
‘Super Saturday LIVE’ is a new offering for subscribers – as part of the landmark AFL rights deal – which requires an expanded suite of hosts, commentators and experts who will provide more analysis and programming than ever before.
In addition to recruiting established experts, Kayo Sports has this week launched ‘The Kayo Call Up’ - a nationwide talent search to find the next Fox Footy star who will receive a paid on-air role and mentorship in 2025.
Applicants are asked to submit a creative video and their details by December 11 via a dedicated website - https://thekayocallup.kayosports.com.au/
During the 2025 AFL season, Fox Footy commentary and production will be available on all games for the first time along with no ad-breaks during play and every match will also be made available in 4K on Kayo Sports and Foxtel.
It is a unique time for the industry with growth in AFL talent demand. Like with the local news industry with Nine News Regional, give it two or three years… it won’t last until they need to start cutting their budgets back again.
As revealed by this SEN survey & even the Age survey, fans believe fox has the better callers.
What is your problem with Mark Howard? I’d say he’s one of Fox’s best callers - he brings lots of excitement and passion.
Not to mention Howie’s massive brand is good for Fox, hosting one of the most listened to sports podcasts in Australia, and having a global presence now he also calls IPL cricket.
He is not better than Huddson, Hill, Whateley, Russell & Papalia. That’s what I was meaning. he’s definitely ahead of Underwood & Montagna.
Part of me putting him below the other mentioned commentators are his excitement. Sometimes it’s too much and over the top. The others can bring excitement without being too yelling etc
During his chat with Sam McClure on Wide World of Sports on 3AW tonight (Sam’s final show before returning to The Age), Leigh revealed that he would fly from Brisbane to Melbourne once a month to appear on On the Couch.
I think Howard has the makings of a really good commentator, but there’s definite room for improvement. He’s a fair few rungs below the best in the business imo
Personally, losing the sycophantism (a bigger issue in his cricket commentary; a lesser but still present one with his AFL commentary), and being more aware of knowing when not to talk (something Bennett does better than anyone today), would really elevate his calls.
I’m sure his current style is loved by younger demographics than mine however.
Dwayne Russell will NOT be calling Thursday night games for Fox, as he will be calling for SEN in that time slot.
