Wonderful tribute from Gerard and Robbo. There’s also a petition for the popular “Golden Fist” award to be an official AFL award for the best defender
I remember when Footy Classified covered this at the time and Caroline Wilson took it so seriously
Well it certainly wasn’t how you’d expect a board member of and AFL club to behave, nor acceptable behaviour for a workplace.
A little too seriously if you ask me.
I haven’t seen it yet, but i guess she and Gerard Whateley are both really good at what they do…must be though for them to have the job to announce the sudden passing publicly of a colleague and friend.
And Gerard went through this with Drew Mophrett at ABC too…not to mention the 6PR team when Drew died…
The Coodabeen champions were on air when it was announced Drew Morphett had passed away. I recall Ian Cover announced it and then they went to a break to compose themselves.
Fox Footy will also broadcast Frawley’s funeral live from Kingston Town Hall at Moorabbin in Melbourne’s south east at 3pm AEST tomorrow (Wednesday). Although the funeral is private, the public will be able to watch a live stream of the proceedings on the big screens at Moorabbin Oval.
Would it be a stretch to suggest now that Bounce will probably have one last show on GF eve then finish? There aren’t many names off the top of the head that could remotely fill Spuds role.
Herald Sun reports singers Guy Sebastian and Amy Shark will take part in Fox Footy’s Longest Kick competition, which is held by the Yarra River in Melbourne CBD on the morning of AFL Grand Final (September 28).
No idea who’s going to replace Spud, but I see Bounce still continuing next year, but it will never be the same again.
I thought there wouldn’t be another Bounce this year but seeing how some of the guys are now, I think it’s possible as mentioned that there could be another one for the year. Just watching the tribute special and it’s been good and pretty funny so Bounce would be able to capture that too, be respectful but funny.
No idea who they could add to the panel next year, Spud will be irreplaceable but I’d hate to see the show lost. It was always a great way to end the round.
I was glad that Fox Footy were able to broadcast the memorial service too. I think that Fox Footy have really excelled in the way they’ve been able to hold it together through all of this grief of losing one of their own but keep the shows going and be truly respectful in honouring Spud but also giving plenty of airtime and real, honest talk about depression and to get people to seek help.
EDIT: The tribute show just ended with shots of the Lifeline and Beyond Blue numbers. I’m glad they haven’t shied away from any of that and have embraced the talk to spread the message and raise awareness.
Fox Footy Longest Kick 2019
Two-time Coleman Medallist Josh Kennedy (WCE) will go head-to-head against fellow big kicks Taylor Walker, Daniel Rich and Brodie Smith in this Saturday’s FOX FOOTY Longest Kick in a bid to take home the ugliest trophy in world sport (and the second biggest prize of the season).
Twelve current AFL and AFLW players plus one huge booting wildcard will aim to make the distance over the Yarra River when they compete in FOX FOOTY’s Longest Kick on Grand Final Day.
Carlton’s Tayla Harris will aim to replicate the kicking style she is most famous for as she takes on recent Richmond recruit Sabrina Frederick.
Up and coming Carlton power forward Charlie Curnow and Melbourne ball magnet Clayton Oliver represent the young guns while Fremantle’s Aaron Sandilands and Brisbane’s Daniel Rich represent the veterans.
In his first year at the club, exciting Hawk Chad Wingard and Crows super-boot Brodie Smith round out the $10,000 competition.
Singing superstar Guy Sebastian will headline the day, belting out fan-favourite singles to open and close the competition. He will also have his own chance to show off what he has learned from his beloved Crows, as he gets a kick in the KFC Celebrity Challenge.
Sebastian and “All Loved Up” singer Amy Shark will join team captains Nick Riewoldt and Jonathan Brown as they choose their team of kickers from the celebrity group.
Straight from their Ashes success, Nathan Lyon and Pat Cummins, basketball legend Andrew Gaze and number one Supercars driver Scott McLaughlin will also participate.
Masked Singer judge Dave Hughes and comedian Anne Edmonds will bring the laughs as the two aim to kick the distance.
Gogglebox favourites and one-eyed footy fans Adam and Symon will try to improve on their efforts from last year.
FOX FOOTY Longest Kick will be part of a bigger prelude to the big dance, with the best expert commentary team in the business broadcasting LIVE from 10am on Grand Final Day.
All the action kicks off on Friday with the Grand Final Parade live from 11am and a very special Grand Final Eve edition of AFL 360 at 7.30pm.
This Sunday will be back-to-back Bounce from midday until 8.30pm before the Grand Final replay airs again.
FOX FOOTY’S expert analysis will bring fans only on Foxtel (FOX FOOTY, channel 504).
The Bullring was meant to last for the Finals but only went for 2 episodes. Good show after watching the debut 3 weeks. Should be given a full season next year
Not the same without Danny Frawley
They are broadcasting from the back of a boat this year
When you don’t have broadcast rights and know you couldn’t possibly compete.
It gives Slow TV a run for its money.
The normal Grand Final coverage complaints have started on the Fox Footy Facebook page!, seriously surely people by now should know that FOX don’t have the rights to broadcast the Grand Final live.
It’s like watching people rock up to the shops on Good Friday.
