Fox Cricket

I guess Fox/CA did this to reduce wear and tear on the field, given the SCG will host four limited over matches between Australia and India in three weeks.

Including that crap script font

It seems to be the preferred option for broadcasters now too

I think it’s just the trend in sports broadcasts now. Allows rotating the sponsor easily throughout the game if required and also as @BigVic points out there is different signage on the Hindi feed.

Hindi feed available via Kayo for those interested. Watched a few minutes. It’s interesting how they include some English cricket terms in amongst their language. Any Hindi speakers on Media Spy care to enlighten us? :grinning: Very interesting.

What an eyesore, but at least their graphics package looks better than the FOX one.

Better? It’s formatted as runs-wickets

FOX CRICKET’s Mel Jones:

“The Sydney Thunder squeezed their way through to the final thanks to the clutch bowling of Sammy Jo-Johnson and Hannah Darlington, while the Melbourne Stars cruised home by 7 wickets and will enter the final as favourites. Sydney and Melbourne based teams have always enjoyed a great rivalry in Australian cricket and we’ve had some thrilling finals in recent seasons, I expect this will be no different.”

So are Fox commentating themselves? Or is it an extended crew, with Trent, Slats, Lisa, Price and co. being joined by Barnard and Blackwell?

The way the score should be - Wickets/Runs is an Australian invention

I think Mel Jones and Alex Blackwell will join Seven’s commentary for tonight’s final, with the rest in the Sydney studio.

Loved the WBBL this season despite the rain-outs early in the tournament

Always should be this way, for a bowler it is, so why wouldn’t it be the same for the overall score. #offsubject lol

That’s what I was wondering, but as has been, it would still be a joint-production surely? Being a Fox release, they’re not going to mention Seven’s talent.

NB/ I remember reading more than once in articles (I think from Patrick Delany) that Seven and Foxtel have a very good and close working relationship and it was mentioned how it goes back to the AFL simulcast deal in 2012.

Because a bowler was traditionally judged on wickets taken (now it’s more a combination of wickets, RPO, dot balls etc depending on the format) so it made sense for wickets to come first when giving a bowler’s figures.

Runs are the currency of the game, as it is where the run-chase target etc is set, or how far behind a team is. Therefore it is more important than wickets.

Yep, the scores should be gains vs losses, so a batting team gain runs and lose wickets, the bowler gains wickets and gives up runs.

Australian audiences see the correct format all the time during overseas tours and ICC events, we should give up fighting the correct way.

Is there a fight? I have never seen an Australian media outlet display or announce the scores the correct way.

I thought when Nine lost the rights to cricket, Seven and/or Fox might have changed things, but nope. That was your chance.

It’s average for a broadcast in 2020. I’ve seen American high school football broadcasts with a better-looking scorebar than Fox’s current one.

Which is how the rest of the world has always done it. Very myopic of you!
