Fox Cricket

I’d say ad-free Big Bash is achievable. Ad Free Test Cricket would be revolutionary but I think might be a bit optimistic.

The longest stretch of ad-free sport Fox has broadcast so far is the Sandown 500. They will show the Bathurst 1000 ad free this year, which is around 6-7 hours without commercial breaks.

But Fox will need some advertising partners to offset the cost they’ve paid for cricket, not being allowed at least a slot at drinks would make it a hard sell.

Plus cricket is also really boring when play isn’t happening. Ads aren’t quite as intrusive. Even the ABC go around the grounds/read the news during the drinks break.

It think we’ll find It will be ad break free not ad free.

For instance on Fox Footy. No ad breaks during play but ads for Bunnings that pop up on the bottom of the screen.

A new dedicated channel, FOX Cricket, will launch later this year as the new home of the most comprehensive and innovative cricket coverage in Australia.

All men’s Test Matches, One-Day and T20 Internationals plus every game of the Big Bash League will be shown LIVE and available to stream on Foxtel Now. Women’s cricket will receive unprecedented coverage with Women’s Internationals and 23 WBBL games LIVE.

The new partnership will deliver cricket on more platforms so fans can watch where they want, when they want, on the device they want.

Former Australian Captain, Adam Gilchrist, will join the network as the face of FOX Cricket. The cricket great and one of Australia’s most popular commentators will lead FOX SPORTS’ cricket revolution.

Foxtel and FOX SPORTS CEO, Patrick Delany, said the network would change the way fans experience cricket.

“The biggest and best line-up of cricket delivered with FOX SPORTS’ zest and creativity, and available on more platforms, will give fans what they have been waiting for.

“And FOX SPORTS will be the only place to see every ball bowled of every international match in Australia this summer, every BBL game and the most comprehensive women’s line-up – live and uninterrupted – the way sport should be.

“We have just signed one of the most loved cricketers of all time to lead our coverage with Adam Gilchrist joining Allan Border and Brendon Julian as we build a formidable commentary team.

Michael Vaughan set to join the cricket coverage.

Don’t think it’s been confirmed which network he’s joining.

Regardless, he’s a good pickup - have found him to be a good analyst

Didn’t notice that obvious reference (only read the text) - thanks for pointing me to it

Wonder if either broadcaster will poach a Nine talent? Or does that defeat the purpose of a “refresh”? Bill Lawry would at least be good in a guest role for another year or two.

Isa Guha will be joining Fox’s coverage - can’t provide a link to the article since it’s currently broken but here’s a screenshot of it from Apple News:

Isa Guha worked for Triple M’s cricket coverage last summer. Now that the station has decided not to cover cricket, Fox just signed her up.

I would safely guess that talks between Guha and Fox would have been in progress (if not done) before Triple M made their decision/announcement

Fox Sports have this morning announced five new signings in Mike Hussey, Mark Waugh, Mel Jones, Isa Guha and Michael Vaughan.

Mark Waugh isn’t really a new signing, he’s been at Fox for years

Last season Mel Jones commentated women’s cricket on both Ten and Nine. This season she will only be heard on Fox Sports which is a shame. Seven should sign up Lisa Sthalekar ASAP.

Yes they should. She is the last of the good female commentators.

I preferred Mel, Barham and Seven execs should’ve acted sooner, as she can also call games excellently.

I feel Mel is good TV talent beyond cricket and confident in hosting and commentating. Lisa is great as a cricket expert across TV and radio.

Do we know if any of the nine network commentators will be hosting any of the new coverage?

Former England captain, Michael Vaughan, and World Cup winner for England, Isa Guha, will also join the team as part of the network’s fresh new line-up.

The announcement comes only weeks after one of Australia’s most loved cricketers, Adam Gilchrist, was confirmed as the face of FOX Cricket joining Allan Border and Brendon Julian to create the country’s most formidable cricket team.

“This is more than pointing a camera, its about looking at every aspect of the game and finding new ways to deliver something better, something different, something special.

“That’s why we are assembling a commentary team like no other. With over 550 Tests, 1200 ODIs and 75 T20s between them, this team will lead the biggest cricket broadcasting shake-up ever. And it will continue to grow.

“We have a big summer ahead. And we are charging toward it.”

“FOX Cricket will be about entertainment, fun, chemistry and testing the boundaries. It will honour the past and own the future.

“That’s where Adam Gilchrist, Isa Guha, Mike Hussey, Brendon Julian, Mark Waugh, Mel Jones, Allan Border and Michael Vaughan walk in. This is a world class team.

“Isa Guha? It’s true, some Australians don’t know her but Isa will become a household name – she’s an international cricketer having represented England and a brilliant ball-by-ball caller.

“The others you know. It’s one hell of a line up. And there is more to come.”

All men’s Test Matches, One-Day and T20 Internationals plus every game of the Big Bash League will be shown LIVE and available to stream on FOX Cricket. Women’ cricket will receive unprecedented coverage with Women’s Internationals and 23 WBBL games LIVE.
