Fox Cricket’s coverage of the 2022-23 Australian cricket season starts this Sunday (August 28) with game 1 of the three-match ODI series between Australia and Zimbabwe from Townsville.
Each day’s broadcast starts at 9.30am AEST with play beginning 10 minutes later.
That is crap pre match
Nice to see Australia play a 50 over match on Australian soil for a change, even if it is against Zimbabwe.
Creates a rather perverse incentive for Cricket Australia because Australia losing means more money from broadcasting rights in India
What?
Dan Ginnane and Brenton Speed part of the commentary team today in the opening ODI of the summer (?).
Nathan Lyon, Kerry O’Keefe, Megan Barnard and Ed Rainsford also involved.
Do we know if they are calling from Sydney?
I understand they are calling both this series and the upcoming NZ one off-tube, but I stand to be corrected.
ABC are too. Haven’t seen anyone on screen so makes sense they are in the studio. And the photo I saw of the toss had Kirby Short not Megan Barnard, who I would assume would be the preferred should she be at the ground.
And Brad Haddin.
Why isn’t it in 4k?
Because it is against Zimbabwe in Townsville.
The whole coverage feels a little flat - not being in Townsville plays a big part in that.
Likely the equipment is required for the AFL & NRL
EDIT: Sounds like Fox is going to rotate their commentary team through the series - Mark Waugh is commentating on Wednesday’s match
Speedy really just said “we tragically lost Andrew Symonds from the Fox Cricket family”
Brenton’s a real company man.
Gilly no longer involved. Kath hosting, with analysis from Hussey and Lehmann (I assume like the AFL draft, they’ll be in the studio talking about the picks and giving predictions etc.), and Howie “will guide viewers through all the clubs’ selections in the Draft HQ room” (I assume like Gillon - reading out the picks and talking through the process etc.).
Love how Fox are forcing the ‘Howie and Kathy show’ down our throats again, I get it they’re two network stars but far out they are capable of working separately as well…
Sign of the times that the priority around broadcast talent is a franchise cricket draft and not a one-day international.
Admittedly against Zimbabwe but still.
Still.
And this is not a compelling broadcast product at all so far.
