Fox Cricket

There is a mute button. I never watch the cricket with the sound on…unfortunately the heady days of Richie, Bill, Tony and Ian are long gone.

I doubt it - it’s not like the criticism is something new, it’s been there since Fox has had the rights. If anything it’s got worse because Fox has elevated the likes of Warne and Mark Waugh in the commentary hierarchy.

This seems to be a by-product of having a broader range of broadcasters and this insistence that 3-up commentary is critical to the coverage of the game (especially on television).

Looks like CA are blaming covid for some of the dramas

No duck animation on tonight’s BBL game. Standards are slipping at Fox.

Nice. I remember him from his OneHD days and calling the AFL on Ten/One.

SMH and The Age have a clear explanation today on the generator issue which caused the power failure.

That was a good read. I’m surprised we haven’t seen more issues by the sounds of things and you definitely don’t want to be the person who plugs in a toaster and blows the whole thing up!

Would these power issues also be an issue for AFL matches too? Do they have less equipment so that it’s less load or they generally have more techs and the people would be none the wiser.

I know that power issues like this would be a major upgrade but if it’s been an issue for so long I’m surprised there hasn’t been an upgrade somewhere to provide a resolution but I’m not familiar with the geographic locations or their current power grids to see where sources are available.

The last piece I take out of that - one more Ashes series before the stadium is rebuilt so I’ll have to start the petition for Hobart to get the first test in that series after the ultimate success of the upcoming fifth test!

Yeah they could, but AFL games go for much shorter than a test match, making it a lot less likely to occur. Plus there is only the one broadcaster for the AFL, plus no DRS of course.

As shown in this clip, BT Sport took the world feed provided by Fox Cricket but inserted its own sponsor logos virtually on the field.

BBC’s highlights show have the same ones.

I am not sure why BT Sport did it when test series sponsor Vodafone also operates in Britain (and was a former sponsor of England cricket team).

Yeah it’s odd to me but it’s actually allowing the broadcasters to sell the advertising and make more money, thus allowing CA to charge more.

I doubt Vodafone Australia (TPG Telecom) cares much about advertising Vodafone UK, when the owners of Three in the UK have as many shares in TPG as Vodafone Group.

The same happened last year on the Indian broadcaster’s feed which was accessible in Hindi on Kayo.

I’m really not a fan of the virtual sponsors. The painted on logos on the ground really add to the ‘test international feel’ of the cricket.

It’s actually a symbol of greed and crass capitalism over the traditions of the game but sure.

Like the previous edition, the tournament will be played in the league format, where each team will meet the other teams once. The top four sides will qualify for the semi-finals, which will be played at Wellington and Christchurch on March 30 and 31 respectively. Christchurch will host the final on April 3.

unfortunately I will have to cancel my holiday that I planned to attend the finals of the WODI WC because of the closed border.

Damn that sucks VictorianSun but with Omicron around in some states, its best to be safe than sorry. Obviously Cricket is not a travel reason to go into a closed border state.

100%. It’s disappointing but fully I understand and accept it! I’ve been lucky to get all my flights and accomodation back- now just waiting to try and get a refund for my tickets for the matches. Not certain I’ll get my money back for that but we’ll see!
