Foxtel has again established its place as home of the world’s leading television content, as the 72nd Annual Primetime Emmy nominations were announced overnight, honouring an incredible line-up of shows available to watch in Australia on Foxtel.
The nomination ceremony, reimagined as a virtual event this year, recognised a host of ground-breaking new programs and rising stars, along with much-loved talent and hit series, in what has been an unprecedented, extraordinary year for television.
Foxtel content accounts for over 170 Primetime Emmy nominations this year, including acting nods for stunning performances by Australians Cate Blanchett ( Mrs America ), Hugh Jackman ( Bad Education ) and Sarah Snook ( Succession ).
Acclaimed graphic novel adaptation Watchmen took the top spot with 26 nominations, including Outstanding Limited Series and 6 nominations for cast contributions. Regina King is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series and Jeremy Irons for Outstanding Lead Actor. Supporting Actor nominations are Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Jovan Adepo and the Supporting Actress nomination, Jean Smart.
The smash-hit series Succession received 18 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series. Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong are nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor are Nicholas Braun, Kieran Culkin and Matthew Macfadyen. Sarah Snook is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress.
Long-running comedy series Saturday Night Live scored 15 nominations including Kenan Thompson for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and Kate McKinnon and Cecily Strong for Outstanding Supporting Actress.
Hugely popular sci-fi drama series Westworld received 11 nominations including Thandie Newton for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and Jeffrey Wright for Outstanding Supporting Actor.
Critically acclaimed drama series Mrs America received 10 nominations, including Outstanding Limited Series, and the stunning ensemble cast featuring Cate Blanchett, Uzo Aduba, Margo Martindale and Tracey Ullman all received acting nominations.
What We Do in The Shadows also received 10 nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series. Also nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series is Curb Your Enthusiasm and Insecure . Issa Rae is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Insecure and Yvonne Orji for Outstanding Supporting Actress.
Rising star Zendaya has earned her first Emmy Nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Drama series for the breakout hit series Euphoria , which has garnered 6 nominations.
Hugh Jackman is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series/Movie for his extraordinary performance in Bad Education , which is also nominated for Outstanding Television Movie. And Mark Ruffalo has received a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series/Movie for his career-defining role in I Know This Much Is True .
Laura Dern and Meryl Streep are nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for the second season of fan favourite Big Little Lies .
Billy Porter is again nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for the history-making series Pose and Jason Bateman is nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for The Outsider .

The 72nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast LIVE and exclusively on FOX ARENA direct from Los Angeles on Monday, September 21 at 10.00am AEST, with an encore screening at 7.30pm AEST the same day.
