“…historical sister station” 3AW?
Goodings and Penberthy aren’t the most accurate communicators. I’d say it was a poor attempt at simplifying the connection.
AA & AW in ownership aren’t sister stations, however share news resources and content such as Moclair’s middawns.
And previously shared some AFL coverage before FiveAA were forced to take AFL Nation.
Why forced? What happened? I wasn’t aware.
The previous AFL radio rights deal had Crocmedia (now SEN) as the overall right holder and so the AFL Nation call was the default call and generally the other rights holders, who sub-licensed through Crocmedia, could only air their own calls if the the AFL Nation call was already broadcast by another station in that market. The only exceptions may have been FIVEaa and Triple M metro with calls of games involving local teams.
Fiveaa is far better taking 3AW than AFL nation it’s a much better fit. Hopefully they can go back to taking some pregame from 3AW.
With Sportsday moving to Cruise they will need to fill the 6pm-7pm slot. The sports show might just go an extra hour.
SEN are adverising David Wildy as a caller so he might officially move to SEN after doing Sportsday and Fiveaa calling.
They already announced that the sport show with Rowey and Tim will extend to 7pm.
Leon Byner finishing up at FiveAA in early December. No mention of his replacement yet but some options are.
Matt Pantellis could move from nights to mornings and then they fill nights as he is very popular.
Graham Goodings says he is easing into retirement but fills in alot. He might do a few years.
Someone from outside like a Mike Smithson.
Thanks @redline, not a surprise Byner is finishing up. Has/is unwell and sadly may not be long for this world.
Perhaps Nova could network Neil Mitchell as an ultimate cost saving idea? Share would be on par with their dismal afternoon and drive results.
Announced today the Mathew Pantallis will take over from Leon.
Leith Forrest who has done a variety of roles over the year’s will take over from Matt and do nights.
Both seem like great choices.

Who would’ve thought in 2022/23 that we’re still seeing messages saying the website will not be updated (i.e. closed) until January 2023.
FIVEaa.com.au On A Break – Returning 9 January - FiveAA
Surely a major metro station could have some remote updates during this time?
I find it somewhat odd that a station as popular as FiveAA always has an “Advertise Here” link as its feature story on its website homepage: https://www.fiveaa.com.au
Is it really that tough finding advertisers? Surely, the latest news/audio highlights would be more popular.
The Advertiser reports Seven has teamed up with FIVEaa to broadcast a 30-minute bulletin on the station, starting today (June 5). 7News on FIVEaa will be heard weekdays at midday, and replaces a similar show previously hosted by Nine News.
The report says the previous agreement between FIVEaa and Nine Adelaide came to a mutual end.
UPDATE
I would love for 9NEWS to be simulcast on Nine Radio stations nationally, then have WWOS 6:30-7pm.
An update for those interested in the non ratings winter break.
Lucy Lokan is hosting breakfast for three weeks. Last week with Dave Penberthy, this week with Tom Rehn and next week with Will Goodings.
Angie McBride is doing afternoons. Sam Tuggwell amd Warren Tredrea are doing drive and Andrew Reimer is on nights.
Jono Edwards was on air for the first time on Monday hosting the Sports Wrap. He was nervous but did a good job
Richard Pascoe and David Bruce have hosted a few slots as well.
That’s a nice strategic way to stagger the breakfast show holidays without completely jeopardising it’s audience.
Jade Robran announced yesterday she would quit as afternoons host after two years. Her final show is this Friday, October 27.
