Boo yeah Aussies
Very proud to be an Aussie tonight.
Boo yeah Aussies
Very proud to be an Aussie tonight.
So why do you boo them?
Boo yeah is kinda like ‘Oh Yeah’ in my books so yeah…
I think you meant Booyah!
France thumped Morocco 4-0 in Adelaide tonight and will meet Australia in the quarter-final in Brisbane this Saturday at 5pm AEST. France set up victory by scoring 3 goals in eight minutes early in the first half.
In the earlier match in Melbourne, Colombia beat Jamaica 1-0, and progressed to face England in the quarter-final in Sydney on Saturday night (8.30pm AEST kickoff).
Friday’s quarter-finals feature Spain v Netherlands in Wellington (11am AEST kickoff) and Japan v Sweden in Auckland (5.30pm AEST kickoff).
Spain will meet Sweden in the first semi-final at Auckland next Tuesday night, after winning their quarter-finals today. Spain beat Netherlands 2-1 thanks to substitute Salma Paralluelo in extra time second half after scores were locked 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes. The result meant both finalists from the 2019 World Cup had been eliminated.
Sweden defeated Japan also 2-1, but had to survive a late challenge from Japan to go across the line.
The Matildas are through to the semi final. They beat France 7-6 in penalties after both teams failed to score in regulation time and extra time. Cortnee Vine converted the winning penalty.
It’s the first time Australia have reached the semi final of FIFA World Cup (men and women).
Very good result for the Matildas. The Semi Final on Wednesday will be huge.
Why? You had nothing to do with this. It’s like saying you’re proud to be white or any other genetic trait.
Christ, cheer up.
What on earth are you on about?
All I was doing was cheering on the Aussies (albeit the Boo yeah should be Boo yah but anyway). Is this some sort of dog-whistling tactic to drag down the mood?
I know it’s a different context but usually when people say they’re proud to be Aussie — they’re the one who is dog whistling. Especially given the current political context with Australia Day and The Voice referendum.

Yeah nah there’s a difference between being proud of a nation’s sports team as an Australian vs being a racist bogan who wrap themselves in Australian flags whilst deriding another race/ethnicity.
That’s a debate for another time.
albeit the Boo yeah should be Boo yah
According to MediaSpy lore, boo yah must only be used upon selection of briefcase number twenty-six
Nine somehow keep missing out on these historic moments, wonder what Kerry Packer would be thinking from beyond!
Sydney 2000 Olympics, 2003 Rugby World Cup, 2005 Australian Open, 2003-2005 Melbourne Cups, 2010 MasterChef Finale, Gold Coast 2018, Tokyo 2020, FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.
Seven got especially lucky with 2005, 2020 and 2023.
2010 MasterChef Finale
The way you manage to work that in to almost any topic is truly remarkable
Maybe I should stop, sir But it is historic! Media articles, social, etc are going to have a field day tomorrow though, as they did this week and recent weeks.
Wish they’d quote MS / interview TV.Cynic!

I bet you’re always the life of the party.
It’s a sports game for pete’s sake, not everything in this world has to relate back to politics.
The Matildas will meet England in Wednesday’s semi final. The Lionesses defeated Colombia 2-1 in Sydney’s Stadium Australia tonight. Colombia opened the scoring through Leicy Santos in the 44th minute, before Lauren Hemp equalised for England deep in stoppage time. Alessia Russo then scored in the 63rd minute, and that’s how the score stayed until the full time whistle.
It will be the fifth tournament in a row that the Lionesses have reached the semi final.
