The first scene in The China Syndrome (1979) takes viewers into the control room of the fictional KXLA in Los Angeles. Even though it’s 40 years old, this is a very realistic portrayal of what goes on behind the scenes in TV news; the dialog – including the utter superficiality of many comments – could easily have come from a behind-the-scenes documentary on the news business:
