The producers are playing with us! Even the SBS logo is 10 years old and the US abc logo is probably an old version as well.

Overseas people who have seen this movie may not realise that Network Ten is real, and Hamish is a contributor to 10 News and The Project.

The first scene in The China Syndrome (1979) takes viewers into the control room of the fictional KXLA in Los Angeles. Even though it’s 40 years old, this is a very realistic portrayal of what goes on behind the scenes in TV news; the dialog – including the utter superficiality of many comments – could easily have come from a behind-the-scenes documentary on the news business:
