So, what they are threatrning is that you’ll lose access if you don’t pick up a subscription or pay the annual fee by 31 October 2026.

They have to geive me official notice if that is the case. As a subscriber at the time I’ve had no communication from fetch regarding this.

I’m pretty sure when you cancel this will trigger the official email. I haven’t had it either.

I called up my provider and they said no changes to Fetch for the time being. They must be absorbing the cost for those customers on Fetch with a Gen 3 device. They said if there was any change , we will be notified in writing.

Which provider? I thought they all transferred their customers to Fetch direct?

Nope, legacy providers are still keeping Fetch going for their customers and I haven’t been told I have to pay the $30.

I assume this is the case for Optus, iiNet, Dodo, AusieBB customers.

I sent a complaint to Fetch about forcing me to pay the annual levy despite having bought a Gen 3 Fetch box outright and never needing to pay a charge in the past. I also mentioned the ongoing faults that have never been resolved by them like needing to restart the box almost daily.

So, all they did was change the conditions of the levy by extending the use period to 30 June 2028 and offering an incentive (bribe :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: ) of a channels pack and movie streaming for one month.

But you still lose access to using streaming services through the box.

We’re writing to provide an update on upcoming changes and more options for customers using older Fetch Mini Gen 3 (H626T) or Mighty Gen 3 (M616T) devices. You are receiving this message because you use a Gen 3 device which is 5-to-10 years old, on a Retail account without any active Fetch subscriptions, and action is required to retain your Fetch Service.

We recognise from recent feedback how much you may value your Gen 3 device, and we have taken onboard a range of points raised by customers which are reflected in the updated options we’re providing below.

In our last message we explained that your Fetch device(s) (Mini Gen 3 or Mighty Gen 3) is now the oldest generation of access device in service and runs on old-generation technology, needing continuous access to the Fetch IPTV Service with an active account and internet connection to operate. All essential functions developed, operated and/or supported by the Fetch platform are accessed by your device, including the Smart TV Guide, Search, advanced Mighty Recording functions (which require a 7-day commercial feed rather than Free-to-air EPG), Free-to-air TV over Internet, included content, Movie and TV Store, integrated streaming apps, account services and more.

We’re now offering you a way to continue using your Gen 3 device for an even longer extended period of certainty “as-is” – with the option to claim the Ultimate Pack and Movie Box at $0 for 1 month (with a combined value of $30.98). This is alongside your ongoing 30+ streamed TV channels, full customer support and software updates, 30+ family games on your Mighty - plus updated options to make it easier to upgrade your device without any ongoing subscription. You will continue to receive full Customer Support, 30+ streamed TV channels, and ongoing Software Updates. Mighty Gen 3 customers will also retain access to all advanced Recording features, existing recordings and Games.

The $29.99 Extended Service Levy is a one-time payment, per household. It is not a subscription and will not recur.

Important: Choosing this option will extend the support for your Gen 3 device via the Extended Service Levy but will not stop your Gen 3 device from losing access to 3rd party streaming apps over the coming months. It will only ensure continued access to Fetch content, features & services. Only upgrading your device to a Mini Gen 5, Mighty Gen 4 or Gen 4 Pro will enable you to use all streaming apps.

Well, they must be doing that with a lot of people because a lot of people are complaining..

I can imagine they have pissed off a lot of long term Fetch users.

Yep. I wasn’t using mine much anymore - they don’t have much in the way of unique channels anymore (especially ones that you can still record) and I moved my PVR recordings to Plex with a HD Homerun a while ago now. Was still paying for a couple of the channels packs though (after downgrading from ultimate) but have now cancelled them altogether. They run out next month. Will see what happens then, but I am about ready to decommission and turf the boxes. Not paying the ridiculous pricing for a new mighty or getting sucked into the new monthly ‘access’ fee. IMO they have overestimated their importance these days. Having said that, I will have to work a longer term solution for my mother who still records using an old Fetch mighty..

Since the Gen 3 Mighty Box will be bricked by Fetch (whether it be this year or next year now), since im not paying for the ‘privilege’ of extending it another few months, I thought i’d open mine up and see if any components would be worth harvesting. Once you remove all the plastic, & yet more plastic and metal guards, you finally get to the board. Has a mini Wifi PCEI card, and a WD 1TB SATA hard drive. Since its a SOC setup, everything else is on the board. Might grab the hard drive and stick it in my Linux box for a laugh and check the SMART details on it
