Fetch TV

I mean, we already have Google enabled smart TV’s. Kogan is pushing a combo of both Google and Roku enabled TV’s these days.

I’m not a fan of the built in OS solution though. Would rather continue using an external device - in this case, FEtch

Have to wonder how many companies would put a different OS on their TVs just for the Australian market. I get why it might work for Roku in the states but not in our much smaller market.

Even Hubbl is using a customised Xumo/Sky Glass OS.

Oh well. Hopefully we will see deals with the FTA channels so will get start over on hopefully all FTA content.

This ^ But Tbh I’m not sure how people will take it.

10play has this with Paramount+. Pretty much all the 10 shows I watch, I catch up on paramount. We’ve used it for gladiators, Survivor australia, The Cheap Seats. It is so much better to watch without ads

Why is that feature needed?

Agreed. Once you have a Fetch box, you don’t want to go back. It’s a brilliant device and has all the content you need.

They do already : it’s called Stan and Paramount+.

I think 7 were going to launch a paid subscription service to 7Plus but decided not to.

You’ve missed my point.

I can’t watch shows such as The Hundred with Andy Lee and Deal or No Deal on those services.

Because it looks like the newer version of Fetch won’t have PVR.

My question is why do you need to be able to “start over”? Isn’t that just to replay the episode from the start? Why would you need to watch something over and over again?

Dude think about it. There is probably not going to be any recording functionality in the next version, so you need a replacement that’s where start over comes in. Tbh we really don’t know how all this will work at the moment as isn’t still really early days.

Why not just have an app that works on all devices? The experience of having a OS on a cheap and nasty tv would put me off the brand if I was a user.

When I looked at what they were doing I thought this may happen anyway but to completely honest I really don’t see how it would work.

It’s called ‘Entertainment OS’

It’s not about watching something over and over again, it’s about being able to watch something screening ‘live’ that you’ve missed the start of. e.g I get home at 6.30pm and want to watch the 6pm news from the start (without waiting for it be loaded into ‘catch-up’). Fetch already have this on a lot of their streaming channels (even though it’s rarely actually live content).

I’ve never used the catch-up facility on live broadcasts. They can’t remove the recording functionality from the existing Fetch boxes so users will keep doing that. Whatever the replacement option is, I’m sure they’ll take into account that it needs to be as flexible as watchingva recording now.

I was just asking. No need to be patronising, dude.

I’m not sure whether this is true or not as the Fetch STB is very similar to the Foxtel IQ 3 & 4 only that you don’t connect to satellite. With Fetch you still need the STB linked to a account so it’s still possible they could do another major update down the track where the arial is switched off. This is what happened to Foxtel a few months ago so all FTA channels are now streamed and integrated into the EPG. I’m not saying it would happen in the next 3 years, but I would say within the next 10 it will probably happen. It really just depends on what they do with the older boxes once the new Fetch TV OS is rolled out.

I bought a Fetch Mighty refurb with a $100 gift card today, so it only cost me $49.

Very happy with it so far, use it mainly for the pause/rewind functionality on Live TV.

I only paid the $1 activation fee, but found I’m getting some of the streaming channels eg. MTV 80s which I thought were an extra cost? Maybe they’re free for 30 days only? I couldn’t find any info on that.

My only minor grumble is that there no ability to swap LCNs around eg 9HD Newcastle is on 80 and 9HD Central Coast is on 377, so I’m stuck with that.

And that there’s no ability to do a single RF channel scan eg. The 9HD Newcastle it scanned in is the one on UHF 36 when I can also get it on UHF 28, As I lose 36 when ducting from Wollongong knocks it out.

I think you get some of the channels free for the first month. I had movie box free for the first month.
