Fetch TV

Well Telstra has slowly been selling off it’s share in Foxtel. Where once it was a 50% split, News Corp now owns 65% and Telstra only has 35%. They can see a better future with Fetch than Foxtel.

That’s been the case for at least 3 years now (think it’s a bit longer but can’t be bothered looking further right now) and long before their investment in Fetch. News and Telstra have long had plans to float Foxtel on the ASX (and Telstra would probably have mostly exited all together) but that has not eventuated.

It’s a furphy Telstra have divested from Foxtel. It’s 35% as Foxtel merged the two businesses together. (Foxtel and Fox Sports).

Previously the Fox Sports channels were 100% News owned.

So it might be 35% now but it’s 35% of the merged company.

It was the result of Fetch’s extension of its partnership with Warner Bros Discovery.

are these the same MTV channels as what is on 10play?

No, the Fetch TV MTV channel are true tv channels and the 10Play versions are just “fast” channels.

These channels have been on Fetch since early Dec.

Does anyone know why Fetch only charged me $3.68 when I purchased a $6 subscription??

Was it for the full month (not pro-rata over say 20 days or so)? If so seems very odd.

Yeah. I think they line up all their payments for the same day of the month so your first payment will be a part month.

Ok that makes sense.

Fetch boxes will be updated to Software Version 3.35 Floribunda this week.

What’s new

  • Based on customer feedback, we’ve made the Info Bar smaller and more streamlined to reduce visual impact and improve navigation.
  • In the TV Store and TV Apps, we’ve made changes to navigation within a current episode via ‘Next Episode’ and ‘Episode List’ buttons to improve usability.
  • Channel numbers have been added to the Channel Scanner, and the channel order has been changed to ascending (from descending).
  • The 7plus app has been updated with flexible scrolling functionality and a redesigned Live tab.
  • Preparation for an updated Stan app on Mini, Mini 4K and Mighty boxes coming on 6 March.
  • General bug fixes.

The info bar finally looks good and is not obtrusive now. Only took five years of complaining to fix it.

I have the mighty only for free to air recordings of linear channels.

Still not sure what this all means. Are they going down the same path as Hubbl? Bringing out what is basically the same two devices and getting rid of recording? What is this about?

Maybe they think that there’s no future in people recording programs once everything is available to stream immediately.

But there are a lot of people who still like to record and zap commercials.

The solution to this would be 7Plus, 9Now and 10Play offering a paid, ad free option. I would absolutely subscribe to these whereas right now I hardly watch FTA cause of the ads. I reckon they’d get so many more viewers watching them.

Just a streaming box, no PVR unlike a Fetch Mighty and Foxtel IQ4/5
