Ratings for ABC Budget coverage were really low. Maybe the majority of Australian viewers just don’t care.
Think a lot of people are at least interested in what gets announced - they just don’t want to/aren’t interested in watching coverage of it either being handed down or analysed.
I’ve always thought that it would be better for the budget to be handed down on the afternoon of budget day rather than at 7:30pm. That way all the analysis of what the budget means can be provided in the 6pm news rather than late night bulletins.

Most state budgets are revealed in the afternoon after the morning lockdown for journalists (the Victorian state budget will be handed down next Tuesday afternoon, May 18). It will be great if the Federal Treasury follows suit.
