Collins Foods has announced plans to either close or sell the Taco Bell Australia brand within the next twelve months.
What a sutprise. Taco Bell fails again. As I said when they announced its return to Australia, why would you go to a third rate Taco Bell when we already have quality Mexican fast food?
Taco Bell is so average. I’m not surprised at all.
They underestimated the Australian market.
As you have said. The product is very average compared to other Mexican Fast Food in this country. And it’s similar priced.
It does well in the USA through nostalgia. We have not been brought up with it.
i actually didn’t mind taco bell on the limited times i had it lol!
Meanwhile…

Taco Bell is much cheaper in America. It is cheap, tacky Tex-mex which so appeals to those on a bufhet not after amazing food. Here it is slightly better than what I had in America but is still just OK and costs a lot more. That’s the problem when there are many decent takeaway Mexican places here that don’t cost a lot more. GYG and Zambrero’s are booming.
I’ve never even been tempted to try Taco Bell in its current iteration; I had it a couple of times circa 2002, long before GYG/Mad Mex/Zambrero came on the scene. I remember Taco Bell/KFC stores near Bankstown Airport and Canterbury Road, Roselands, as well as the flagship George St Sydney store. From my hazy memory it was pretty low quality even without these ready comparisons (and I was still a teenager then). I don’t think there has ever been a Taco Bell in Canberra.
When you’re up against Guzman y Gomez and Tex Mex that offer a better product for a similar price, it was never going to work for Taco Bell.
Taco Bell lives off its history nostalgia in the USA.
For Taco Bell to work in Australia, they needed to improve and customise their menu items to accommodate Australian standards. Similar to what we are now seeing with Starbucks and the recent launch of Wendy’s on the Gold Coast.
Bring back sizzler
Don’t worry Australia, we’re not going anywhere. | Taco Bell AU
Umm? You sure? ![]()
Safe to say there’s clearly no future for Taco Bell in Australia. People are going to GYG for their taco fix these days.
Errm i didnt post the update lol
Yet - but soon enough all of our stores will be KFCs
It was meant to be a response to Taco Bell in regards to their Facebook post.
Wingstop’s first Australian store will open on Darlinghurst Road, King’s Cross in Sydney on May 17. It’s located on the ground floor, below Woolworths Metro.
I was staying in nearby Holiday Inn Potts Point in April and saw the shop under final renovation.

I’ve gotten to the point where i actively avoid HJ’s. the one i normally go to (The famous Queen St, Brisbane one) has long wait times, even with minimal people and i’ve had a few wrong orders given to me.
If i was in charge of HJ’s i’d do the following.
1 – Breakfast should be Breakfast ONLY. no doing breakfast wraps and Whoppers at the same time. i know this may annoy some people. heck, i worked shifts in a past life, and getting non-breakfast food at 5am when I’ve been up since 8pm is a pain but its really slowing things down.
2 – cut the menu by at least 30%. there’s too much on the menu and once again it slows down service. service should be quick. nothing worse than waiting 15 mins for food (and i’m not exaggerating)
I agree with this. I worked many years at HJ’s as a teen into Mgmt and everything was so much simpler back then. The menu today is crazy busy and I honestly don’t know how they manage it. Clearly they aren’t with feedback like yours a common thing today.
