Fast Food/Takeaways and Restaurants

Spotted the Burger King logo in Season 1, Episode 3 of The Block from 2003:

I’d take that this was just before Hungry Jack’s took ownership of remaining BKs.

Edit: After browsing to see if I could find any photos of the Bondi Beach location before it was converted, it seems the Waterloo, NSW location which is located in a Shell service station, uses a hybrid of the Hungry Jack’s name with the BK font:

A photo of the Bondi Beach location also used this style font in 2004 before it was updated:

I believe almost every co-located Hungry Jacks/Shell service station would have been a Burger King at one point.

McDonalds very much confirming, at least in the US that the days of unique limited time only products are essentially dead, apart from seasonal staples like the McRib.

The celebrity tie-ins must perform just as well.

Gruen featured the celebrity Maccas promotions last night.

Yeah. Everyone should be a sell-out for the cash. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Sign me up! The @Radiohead Roster, coming soon to a Macca’s near you?!

I’m sure everyone will be lining up for the sausage biscuit on the 23rd.

Today I have had my morning coffee, dining in at McDonalds in Box Hill for the first time in months. They have notices up explaining if you wish to dine in, you must show your vaccination certificate to the front counter staff when ordering, when you do, you get a stamp on your order ticket. During my visit I saw no issues with this system.

What doesn’t make sense is I went to my local neighbourhood shopping centre that has a food court, brought a coffee and could sit at a table in the food court and didn’t need to show my vaccination status where if I sat at a table in the Cafe in the same shopping centre I would have to show it.

In a similar vein, I saw yesterday that fast food chains like McDonald’s are not permitting eat in here in NSW, but you can do that at any other cafe or restaurant. Are they concerned that they can’t enforce social distancing?

Yeah, it would be the difficulty of enforcement. In NSW I’m fairly sure to comply with the measures you’d probably need a member of staff acting effectively as a waiter to verify vaccination status before people can be seated.

I’m fairly sure that the large chain fast food restaurants don’t actually need eat-in facilities to drive sales. Most people are happy enough getting take away or drive-thru.

True but if you are travelling it’s good to take a break and stretch your legs and have a meal. It doesn’t make sense food courts should have the same rules

You’d think they would be the ones who could afford to have a security guard or COVID safe marshal to enforce it, but they obviously don’t want to do this.

Agree with @jason120au that it’s a disadvantage for travellers, not so much for locals.

Could be up to the individual franchisees whether they reinstate dine in or not.

McDonalds in the Box Hill Central shopping centre has a dine in area attached to it, separate to the food court in the centre.

The two closest McDonald’s to me (Geelong and Geelong West) haven’t reintroduced dine in again yet, as you said it’s probably a franchisee decision

Does anybody here use a ready meal delivery service like YouFoodz? Due to nothing more than extreme laziness I have found myself buying lunch and dinner most days for the last few months (with the corresponding financial and waistline hit) so am giving them a go next week.

There seem to be so many options around these days, it’s hard to know which are good and which are terrible, it’s hard to trust online reviews at the best of times. I’m planning to try My Muscle Chef as well.

Any recommendations or experiences?

I hate all the foam and plastic packaging with the home delivered meals. I bought four of them and felt guilty.

I am not an environmental warrior but that foam made me feel bad.

Apart from fruit and veggies, pretty much everything else comes in some sort of packaging.

I would be OK with it if it was being recycled, but apparently here in Newcastle there are no companies that recycle paper and cardboard (only plastic and glass bottles).
