New hosts are Courtney Act and Tony Armstrong

Tony Armstrong and Courtney Act revealed as Eurovision Song Contest commentary team

TV’s hottest couple will guide Australia through the world’s largest live music event and join the nation in cheering on our ‘Milkshake Man’ Go-Jo.

SBS and production partner Beyond Productions are excited to reveal Logie-award winning presenter Tony Armstrong and multi-hyphenate entertainer and global icon Courtney Act are the new dynamic duo teaming up to take the helm of the commentary booth in their inaugural year at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland.

SBS’s exclusive coverage airs LIVE from Wednesday 14 – Sunday 18 May at 5:00am AEST on SBS and SBS On Demand.

Catch all the behind-the-scenes action and exclusive insights during SBS’s Access All Areas prime time Eurovision event weekend coverage from Friday 16 – Sunday 18 May at 7:30pm AEST on SBS and SBS On Demand.

Whether it’s kicking goals as one of the nation’s most beloved figures in entertainment and sport or catapulting Australian drag excellence to unprecedented global recognition, both Tony and Courtney are seasoned pros when it comes to performing at an elite level. These trailblazing titans of Australian television are the perfect pair to rally the nation behind Australia’s 2025 Eurovision artist, global viral pop sensation and certified milkshake aficionado, Go-Jo, as he shakes and makes the whole world dance on the global stage.

From the first pyrotechnic explosion to the penultimate key change, Tony and Courtney will decode every unforgettable moment LIVE from St. Jakobshalle across all 37 competing acts from the Semi Finals to the Grand Final. Buckle up for razor-sharp banter, uncontrollable laughs, undeniable chemistry, and the showstopping performances that make the Eurovision Song Contest a glittering spectacle you don’t want to miss!

Tony Armstrong said: “I’m so excited to jump into the world of Eurovision with the one and only Courtney Act who has already taken me under her wing. I’m definitely not envious of her brilliance and my jealousy won’t make it on screen I promise. Eurovision holds such a special place in so many hearts around the world. I look forward to being a part of the spectacle along with Courtney!”

Courtney Act said: “I was not prepared for how much I would enjoy Eurovision last year- and this year I’m back, now with everyone’s favourite IT man, Tony Armstrong (who I can confirm is just as delightful and dashing in real life as you’d expect). I’ll be offering my commentary expertise on every costume reveal, key change, wind machine and pyro moment I know Switzerland will deliver. Tony’s already taught me a thing or two about team sport energy, and I’ll be returning the favour with a crash course in camp!”

With countless accolades between them, this powerhouse pair are ready to embrace the Eurovision spirit and usher in the dawn of an extraordinary new era of the Eurovision Song Contest for Australia.

Beloved television personality and proud Gamilaroi man Tony Armstrong is set to embark on this cross-continental musical odyssey for the very first time. Since bursting onto the TV presenting scene on NITV’s football chat show Yokayi Footy, Tony has left an indelible mark on Australian media and is now ready to bring his incomparable charisma to the Eurovision commentary booth. From playing AFL with Adelaide, Collingwood, and Sydney, to becoming the first Indigenous person to call live action Aussie Rules Football on commercial radio, presenting countless programs across the ABC, NITV and various other networks and earning a Gold Logie award nomination in 2024 – Tony has solidified his status as one of Australia’s most respected and versatile presenters.

Following a hugely successful stint as SBS’s backstage Eurovision correspondent in 2024, Courtney Act returns to the bright lights of the Eurovision Song Contest as host and commentator in 2025. With a formidable track-record on competition shows, Courtney first mesmerised audiences with history-making dual identity auditions in and out of drag on Australian Idol before ascending to international stardom on RuPaul’s Drag Race , clinching the UK Celebrity Big Brother crown and a dazzling second place run on Dancing With The Stars All Stars - all while illuminating the nuances of gender fluidity and championing LGBTQI+ visibility. Suffice to say, Courtney will bring a glamour infused shot of musical expertise and observational wit to the Eurovision commentary booth.

SBS Director of Television Kathryn Fink said: “As SBS celebrates 50 years, we’re delighted that Tony Armstrong and Courtney Act have agreed to come along for the ride to entertain and guide viewers through the cultural juggernaut that is Eurovision. With two of Australia’s most celebrated personalities at the helm, this year promises to be bigger and bolder than ever before.”

Australia’s Creative Director for Basel, Paul Clarke said: “Stepping into the Eurovision commentary booth is no small feat – it’s a role that demands expertise, charisma, and teamwork. Luckily our next set of hosts are larger than life! We couldn’t have asked for a more dynamic duo - with Courtney’s showbiz know-how and Tony’s commentary prowess we will have all bases covered in Basel. Beyond are thrilled to welcome this dream team to the broadcast.”

Tony Armstrong and Courtney Act pick up the glittery microphones from beloved predecessors’ music buff Myf Warhurst and comedian Joel Creasey, who served as SBS’s commentary team from 2017-2024.

It had to be Courtney Act but Tony Armstrong I’m not so sure. He’s good with a script but haven’t seen enough of him to see if he’s naturally good with a chat.

Courtney Act is great, and is suited to this. But Tony Armstrong? That was unexpected. I also haven’t seen enough of him ad-libbing.

I think part of his charm was that he was very charismatic with the banter on News Breakfast. I guess they are going with them same theory when they hired Sam Pang. Bring in a commentator to cater to the part of the audience that aren’t Eurovision regulars or aficionados to handhold them through.
I’ll be sticking with the commentary free You Tube stream.

Go-Jo seems to be putting a lot of promotional effort this year; just finished visiting Europe appearing at concerts. Seems to be a crowd favourite in some of the Western countries through Sweden is the bookies favourite.

The reason that I’m not sure about Tony Armstrong is that I don’t believe for a second that he’s a Eurovision fan. Joel and Myf definitely were which is why I much preferred them in the role.

Courtney is then such a predictable replacement that I’m not too excited about either but at least she is a Eurovision fan and even competed in Australia Decides.

I actually went to Joel Creasey’s comedy show the other night as part of the Melbourne International Comedy festival and Joel did comment on leaving the role. The heightened tensions of last year (surrounding Israel) ultimately being one of the reasons that he and Myf decided it was time to bow out. They had considered finishing up a couple of years ago but they were still having fun so kept going. Last year the vibe (and even criticism of anything they did or said in relation to Israel) made them feel it was the right time to finish up.

I think they are trying to go for the Eurovision fan + casual fan dynamic that Sam + Julia had.

New team sounds great. Loved Sam and Julia, always been a Myf fan, Joel not so much. Myf was starting to annoy me with her “this is a brilliant track” nonsense. You’re not playing CD’s Myf and Joels fawning over certain performers was tiresome. IMO it is certainly time for a change and these two are good choices. The more entertaining commentators for Eurovision are those that can take the ‘piss’ out of it like Graham Norton and Terry Wogan before him. Sam was quite good at it, hope Tony can but he’s probably too nice.
