Eurovision Song Contest

Go-Jo chatted with Angela Bishop on 10 News First Lunchtime earlier today.

I had a look at the betting odds where Sweden appear to be ranking on top at the moment, despite not having selected their artist. So I’m not sure if betting odds mean too much at this stage. I did notice though that the clear favourite to win Melodifestivalen (their selection contest) is Mans Zelmerlow. He won Eurovision 10 years ago with Heroes which has always been one of my favourite winning songs. Maybe that’s why Sweden are on top and they could potentially have another 2x winner on their hands like Loreen.

Gee if Mans is selected for Sweden he will be hard to beat, with the right song of course.

For me Heroes tops both of Loreens efforts but really don’t think Revolution is that great.

Milkshake Man though is a whole lot of fun at a time when the world really needs a bit of fun, has a catchy hook and crucially callback elements which will really work in the arena.

Sounds a bit same same.

I like up until he first starts singing revolution, because then it feels like he never stops saying it and am really quite glad the song ends.

It is, since he was announced as participating in Melfest, Sweden shot to the top.

Song is a very average message song about people having the ability to change the world but the song and staging are great. Personally I would not want it winning this year. My top 3 this year are Us, Finland and Norway.

I watched his performance and thought it was decent but not amazing (it seemed to lack something to push it up a level). I then listened to the song on Spotify and now I really like the song as the recorded version is much better. I think if he can tweak the live performance a bit, like not get lost in some of those backing vocals then I can see it being a contender.

What The Hell Just Happened

Would be what the Brits are asking about their latest entry.

I hate pretty much everything about this, they will really need the juries to prop them up if they want to not finish bottom 5 again. I don’t see this getting many televote points.

Probably the other worthy update for casual Eurovision viewers on this forum…

Hmm, on paper I should hate it. But I just don’t. I’m fairly certain it won’t do well at all, but there’s something very British about it, and the changes in tempo are quite unusual.

Well the favourite hasn’t even made it with Mans second in Melfest to the much more fun Sauna Song from KAJ, Sweden’s first Swedish language entry this century.

Milkshake Man sounds heavily autotuned in the official music video, so I’m really curious if it will sound a bit different when sung live on the Eurovision stage.
