Has to be the most boring song to win in quite a few years surely? Put me to sleep.

What was the go with North Macedonia getting such a high jury vote then crushed in the public vote.

That was a bit of a trend though, the disparity between jury and public votes for many entrants.

I was really surprised Kate didn’t go that well with the juries, but got a respectable public vote…

she came 6th with the juries. That’s pretty good!

See -

She came 6th with the juries and 7th with the televote.

It was a fairly distant 6th though, with numerous 0 points from juries and only two 12s from memory. In that field of mediocre songs it wasn’t great. Something was going on with North Macedonia though. Consistently high jury results that for me weren’t really explainable.

a lot of things in Eurovision lack explanation

I’m used to waking up that early so I was able to watch it live. I thought Sweden were great too ,was sure they were going to win

So true

For some reason, SBS have a LIVE and a LIVE HD watermark on the 8.30pm replay.

?

Not in Tas, just SBS and HD.

No ā€œLiveā€ on the watermark in Melbourne

LIVE has now been removed here in South Aussie.

Very late finish. Why didn’t they screen the final from 7,30pm?

No idea. It’s not like they were showing anything earth shattering at 7.30.

Yeah. The Aussie entry didn’t screen until almost 11pm and voting started closer to midnight.

Seems a waste.

Which somehow put her 9th.

Kate did well. You can’t be disappointed with a top 10 finish out of 41 countries. However I can’t deny that I had really high hopes when the bookies had us as the second favourite and there was also a huge crowd reaction during her performance. The first semi final she did receive the most points out of any country, however most of the countries that ranked higher than her in the Grand Final this year were not in that semi.

I also didn’t realise that Kate had to fund a lot of Eurovision herself. She did receive a $60,000 grant but she said the cost was somewhere in the 6 figures to do that production. A crowd funding site got her an extra $50k which she needed to be able to do that.

All in all I thought it was a pretty good year. I was happy enough with the winner, not my standout favourite but I much preferred it to some of the others that ranked high. I didn’t think anything of countries like Sweden or Italy which were getting a lot of points. I did like Russia a lot now Sergey has come 3rd twice in Eurovision.

It was interesting seeing the difference in judges and jury votes. Poor North Maceodnia ranking so high but not getting the public support although not surprising. I was surprised that Norway did so well to be the clear #1 with the public but the juries didn’t rate it. It was also very embarrassing for Germany to be called out as receiving zero points.

Really bad scheduling by SBS that you needed to wait until after midnight for the winner last night.

Overall, I thought this was a good year; Kate probably deserved to be a couple of places higher. Again a massive difference between jury and public voting, I wonder about the jury in some countries.

Poor, UK, if it wasn’t for Graham Norton’s constant negative comments about Australia’s participation, you could almost feel sorry for them. This year when describing Australia he commented ā€œif windscreen wipers could singā€.
