For Seven Queensland (STQ), would anyone prefer the main channel to be called 7HD (Region Name) to indicate that the quality is HD?
OR
Just 7 (Region Name) as there is only an HD service in MPEG-2 for the main channel? No point saying it’s HD as there are no SD simulcasts and every single digital TV can practically access it.
I do prefer the HD reference in the channel name, i like that reassurance I’m watching HD content, regardless of whether there is an SD simulcast or not.
Me too, but I think the trend now is to not bother putting it in the name unless there is/was a simulcast of it.
Speaking of which, NITV on VAST now has HD in the name. They didn’t bother until a few days after the switch. On the contrary, VICELAND doesn’t have HD in the name, so I guess the networks just do whatever they feel like at the end of the day.
I can confirm that my TVs shows the same list as you, apart from a few modifications.
Firstly, the shopping and datacast channels (except for Sky News Regional) have been removed, then I have the main HD channels on the single-digit LCNs, and have 7mateHD on LCN 63 for historical purposes, as 7mate was on LCN 63.

Just compared that list to the 2022 version, how come only Seven and Ten have local South Coast feeds now while WIN takes Wollongong? Did WIN opt to end the local South Coast feed and replace it with Wollongong altogether?
If so, then that’s bad news for towns like Bega and Merimbula who now have advertisers from the Illawarra beaming into those areas. Probably why you’re more likely to see Far South Coast advertisers show up on 7HD and 10 HD.
When 10 Comedy and Drama roll around in 9 days, what will the names be in the WIN and ex-WIN markets? I know that ex-SCA regions and metro will just call it 10 Comedy and 10 Drama like that.
Except WIN doesn’t have its own dedicated South Coast feed, instead choosing to take a dirty relay of Wollongong. The same situation can be said with the Central Coast where WIN’s 10 (now Network 10) signal into the Central Coast just takes Newcastle. To book advertising space on ex-WIN 10 you need to contact the Newcastle office, unless they also have an office on the Central Coast?
In short, these are the names as follows…
South Coast NSW: 9HD Wollongong
Central Coast NSW: 10HD Newcastle
SWM and SCA (now Network 10) retain local feeds for the South Coast specifically for advertising purposes, while on the Central Coast SWM and NBN have local Central Coast feeds, again for advertising but on NBN you also get the local Central Coast news instead of the Newcastle bulletin.
I think that the South coast Win is still called 9HD South Coast despite not being a local feed. I remember when I went to the South Coast in 2021 and the WIN 10 multichannels were still named ONE and ELEVEN there so WIN must forget about this market a lot.
Most people would realise what most call signs mean and make up their own meanings
NRN has mistakenly been named Northern Region when its actually Northern Rivers.
NEN is New England. I’m not sure what you could misinterpret it as, possibly North East, but other than that not sure what else you could think it was.
Rather than type these out, for anyone interested, heres a link to Australian callsigns on Wikipedia. Not always the best source of information, for this topic I think its fairly accurate. Many of those callsigns not listed in the callsigns are under former callsigns.
