DTV Channel Names

What does it matter?

Me too.

But I think TVSN’s position is the reason why WIN went with 81/82/83 for the multi’s - under both Nine and 10 affiliations.

Same here. I am a bit surprised WIN kept TVSN in Nine markets after July 1. As I have said before, the Nine markets use a 10 style sponsor board but the 10 ones don’t. I would not be surprised if WIN changes them to Nine ones in-between now and the Tasmanian bulletin launch, as well as doing this:

8: Nine
80: 9HD
81: Nine
82: 9Gem
83: 9Go!
84: 9Life
85: 9GemHD
86: GOLD
87: Extra/TVSN

I hope this will happen, especially as Seven have launched 7mateHD in PRIME markets. It may be as they are O&O, but it is likely all the former PRIME staff are still there, not under control by Seven as Seven is at NPC, and Seven Regional/PRIME are at TBS.

Unlike SCA, WIN seems to want their brand shown on sponsor boards/idents, and are only using the Nine branding due to Nine forcing them. If Nine didn’t, I am 90% sure WIN would’ve used the WIN branding on the main channel.

With Idents, I reckon they can stay long term (Nine/9Gem/9Go on the WIN Network, haven’t seen any 9Life ones though) however it would probably be a different case for TVSN/10 style sponsor boards.

With the sponsor boards, WIN now use the SCA style for 10 stations, but still the 10 style for Nine stations. I doubt Nine would want to see a 10 style sponsor board during Nine News Tasmania. With TVSN, it looks like WIN would probably drop them when the contract is up, and have the fate of GOLD2 (replaced by Extra).

Back to the multis with 81-83 instead of 82-84, the reason I do not like it is due to it not being like Nine metro/SCA Spencer Gulf/Nine Darwin/NBN. It sticks out like a sore thumb unlike the other Nine stations/all the 7 stations (all of them have 7TWO on 62, not 61 etc.) So that is why I do not like it. I would like for WIN to look like metro more.

Gold used to broadcast on channel 86 before the July 2016 affiliation swap but after the March 2016 reshuffle so Gold would be back in it’s March to June 2016 spot @TBoy.

At least they are in order and are relatively consistent.

WIN and SCA have made a mess of 10’s channel placements across their markets. For example, 10 BOLD can be found on 1, 5, 12, 50, 51, 52 or 53 depending on the market!

I reckon the opposite LCNs should be used here to keep them aligned to metro. TVSN on x6 everywhere, Extra or Gold on x7 everywhere.

I wonder what LCN 7Bravo will be on? I think it will be 75, but I would like to see this:

METRO
7 7
70 7HD
71 7
72 7TWO
73 7mateHD
74 7Bravo
76 7flix
78 RACING. COM

REGIONAL QLD
7 7HD
70 7HD
71 7HD
72 7TWOHD
73 7mateHD
74 7Bravo
76 7flix
78 RACING. COM

REGIONAL NSW/VIC
6 7
60 7HD
61 7
62 7TWO
63 7mateHD
64 7Bravo
65 ishoptv
66 7flix
68 RACING. COM

If 7mate SD is dropped and replaced by 7Bravo, there will be no change in bandwidth as there would be the same amount of channels as without it. Also allows ishoptv on Seven Regional to not be moved.

I would like to see the main HD channel on 7 (or 6).

Then you can have:

7/6 7HD
70/60 7SD
etc.

Removes the pointless simulcast. I’d like them to use the opportunity to make 7two HD in metro as well.

Why not bite the bullet and remove 7, 7two and 7mateHD so it looks like this:

7: 7HD (MPEG-4)
70: 7HD (MPEG-4)
71: 7HD (MPEG-4)
72: 7TWOHD (MPEG-4)
73: 7mateHD (MPEG-4)
74: 7Bravo (MPEG-2 SD)
76: 7flix (MPEG-2 SD)
78: RACING . COM (MPEG-4 SD)

7QLD would be the same as well as 7Regional but the latter is on the 6 LCN with ishoptv (MPEG-4 SD) on 65.

Why back-to-back?

Does anyone have a list of every digital television channel in Australia ever by LCN Name?

‘every’ and ‘ever’ means such a list will be infinite. That’s not really possible. You can probably source a list of every current channel easily from @WAtvVideos’s XML EPG.

But this thread is a good read if you want various historic lists.

I’m not sure how up-to-date it is but there is a Wikipedia article based on tv channels in Australia and it contains exactly what you’re looking for. It’s just a big list of current and retired channels in Australia.

I change Wikipedia including that article all the time
