The ACT government had one of their mobile speed camera vans parked outside the Chapman public school in a 40kph school zone on Wednesday despite all public schools in the ACT being effectively closed. Only students who weren’t able to be at home were at school, and the Chapman school looked fairly dead with only about four teachers cars in the carpark.
Had to go into Queanbeyan this morning to pick up medication (essential travel, though I went the long way via Carwoola). Noticed a few goons with kayaks on their roof whilst in QBN. I’m hoping they don’t try to get down to Batemans Bay this weekend.
The only police car I saw was funnily enough in Bungendore; they weren’t pulling anyone over though, just patrolling the 50 km/h zone.
It was a very different traffic report tonight compared to the usual Easter Monday when we hear of big traffic jams caused by holiday makers returning to the city.
The ABC is advertising on 10 News?
Yes ABC Reading advertises on commercial TV.
reading eggs is a product of ABC Commercial and is a paid subscription service. my kids have it paid for by there school
Not using the new ABC logo. That’s a paddlin’
Traffic in Sydney was dead as over the weekend. Very spooky.
I did an little run around town to see how the stay at home order was affecting traffic flows (not exiting the car).
The M5 tunnel was closed all weekend long, but the traffic flows were absolutely beautiful along the detour route. No jams whatsoever. This is on a route where if it’s closed on a weeknight from 10pm to 4am, there are traffic jams for miles along the detour route. You could have probably played cricket on the tolled section of the M4, there were that few cars. I think the Highway Patrol being out in numbers really thinned out the traffic. You’d see a patrol car sitting on the roadside every few kilometres, which surely would spook some of the holidaygoers thinking about slipping through the dragnet to get to their south coast holiday houses.
I drove on the M1/A1 route coming from Hornsby back to the Eastern Suburbs today. I picked up a Gumtree freebie off someone’s front doorstep, and by the time I got back into Sydney, it was 5pm and would normally be suicidal to drive down that route at that time.
I hit the Eastern Distributor and the traffic flow was smooth as butter. Really bloody nice. You almost forget that all the clearways and bus lanes are still in effect because it’s just like driving on a public holiday Sunday. In fact, it’s better than a public holiday Sunday.
The traffic in Sydney these days is better than sex, I must say.
Shame the economy relies on the roads being jammed with traffic, though.
Ironic that the traffic in Sydney improved as soon as I got away from the place
If you move back, perhaps the pandemic might magically disappear!
No chance of that I’m afraid. If I have to move close to a big city again it will be Melbourne, and I will live in either Ballan or Ballarat
chose ballarat:)
I don’t mind Ballarat- plenty of history which I enjoy. The climate is also cold enough for my liking. But Ballan is a bit closer to Melbourne on the train whilst retaining the cool climate, and is about the same size as where I now live (Bungendore). It’s just a coincidence that all of these start with a ‘B’!
I would also consider around Mount Macedon but Ballan is a bit more affordable.
I would still prefer to be around Canberra (smaller city) than Melbourne, though. I would not live somewhere where I’d have to drive into Melbourne each day.
Chapest I’ve seen in Melbourne is e10 for $0.97 and unleaded for $0.99. We seem to be playing catch up.
Costco has been selling U91 (no E10 rubbish in WA) for 78.7cpl here since before the Easter long weekend. Adjusted for inflation that’s easily cheaper than the lows in the late 90s when oil was around $10/bbl (but the AUD was less than 50c against the USD at that time of course).
E10 was 49.9 in Earlwood the other day, 59.9 in Campbelltown
Fuelcheck says 63.9 for E10 and 73.7 for 91 is the lowest in Sydney atm
As a Campbelltown local, I know that this particular petrol station is in the suburb of Ruse.
Back to the 90s, in more ways than one. Now hopefully temperatures will be the next thing to drop…
Fuel in the Canberra area is still comparatively expensive; looking up Queanbeyan in FuelCheck.nsw.gov.au shows 95 (Premium) is 131.7 c/L at Jerrabomberra, 118.9 c/L at (Metro) Goulburn.
Back to the good old days when Falcodores ruled the roost.
Ahh, life was much simpler back then.
On and off the road.
