Years ago, it was proposed that there be a 4 lane coastal motorwsy from Cairns to Adelaide via BNE/SYD/MEL.
Perhaps if they hadn’t kept cutting taxes to keep themselves in power, we might have had that by now.

Maurice Blackburn has launched a class-action suit targeting General Motors, Holden’s parent company, alleging that the manufacturer sold cars with bad automatic transmissions.
The class action focuses on three transmissions, the GM 6L 45, 50 and 80, which were sold in large vehicles such as the Australian-made Holden Commodore and Thailand-sourced Colorado ute and Trailblazer four-wheel-drive between January 2011 and December 2024.
“Because of the alleged defect, car owners have experienced problems with their vehicles including intermittent transmission shudders, excessive vibrations and harsh gear shifts,” she said.
“Owners of the affected vehicles have also reported leakage of automatic transmission fluid, accelerated degradation of transmission system components and greater servicing requirements.
“The class action alleges that General Motors failed to comply with the guarantee of acceptable quality under the Australian Consumer Law and engaged in misleading and deceptive conduct.”
This morning the Victorian Government announced a new Fair Fuel Plan, which will force fuel retailers to announce fuel prices the day before, and lock them in for 24 hours.
Premier Jacinta Allan and Minister for Consumer Affairs Nick Staikos met with tradies and apprentices at Victoria University Werribee campus today to announce the Government’s Fair Fuel Plan , which will require fuel companies to publicly report their fuel price changes the day before they are in effect – and lock in those prices for 24 hours.
Under the plan, the Government will make it compulsory for the more than 1500 fuel retailers across the state to provide their pricing data in real time. This data will then feed directly into a new fuel finder feature on the Service Victoria app, giving Victorians the opportunity to shop around for the best deal when they’re ready to fill up.
The Fair Fuel Plan will be phased in over 2025. The Service Victoria fuel finder will launch later this year and could save Victorian motorists hundreds of dollars a year at the bowser.
Mazda Australia have announced that the Mazda 6 mid/full sized sedan & wagon will be discontinued in Australia.
This leaves the Toyota Camry as the only non European option for a medium to large sedan in Australia. Hard to believe when our roads used to be full of Mitsubishi Magnas, Ford Falcons, Nissan Skylines and Holden Commodores not all that long ago.
The indirect replacement, a fully electric Mazda 6e is being offered in other RHD markets overseas (like England and South Africa) but no decision has been made on that coming to Australia.
(nb. I write this as a current Mazda 6 owner that is very reluctant to even consider an SUV ).
Things have certainly changed really fast in the last 10 years or so in terms of top selling cars.
I don’t see many Mazda 6’s around,I’m still happy with my Mazda CX-3 , I’ve had it 18 months now.
I see a few of them. But lost in a sea of SUVs of course.
The state government said construction would begin in 2026-2027, with an estimated completion date in 2030.
The Werribee Main Road – Princes Freeway Interchange Upgrade will deliver more traffic lights at key intersections, a roundabout at the Princes Freeway exit ramp to Wests Road, a new lane to the Werribee Main Road bridge, and an improved citybound entry ramp – cutting peak travel times by over 10 minutes every day.
In Wyndham Vale, the Ballan Road Intersection Upgrade will replace the current roundabout with traffic lights at McGrath, Ballan and Greens roads, as well as deliver better walking and cycling paths to improve connectivity and safety.
I remember when that used to be an even worse exit - headed outbound you would need to use the right hand lane to exit the freeway - the current exit might be under capacity but it’s so much better than it used to be.
The Ison Rd stuff is more interesting though - it would have been weird under current plans to seemingly just not quite finish that link after separately building the overpass to get it most of the way.
The problem is though that once you do link Ison Rd, the amount of traffic going through that exit will amplify significantly, as you’ll finally have a somewhat direct link to the freeway for a lot of those in Manor Lakes/Wyndham Vale - so it might end up over capacity the day they open it.
Also, the project will only add a new lane to the Werribee Main Road bridge, rather than building a new bridge next to the existing one. Given the expected amount of traffic using the road to access Manor Lakes / Wyndham Vale as well as the service centre in the middle of the interchange, a new bridge plus signalised intersections are definitely needed.
Western Australia at the end of last year heralded the rollout of six new mobile cameras across the state, and this week it was revealed a tender is out for four new ‘smart cameras’ for Perth freeways.
Once in place, motorists will face one of the most camera-concentrated stretches of road in the nation as the government ramps up its Road Safety Strategy after recording it’s highest road toll in 10 years in 2024, when 190 people lost their lives.
Two new fixed cameras are proposed on each of the Kwinana and Mitchell Freeways in Perth.
Racismo?
So, who here owns the car with (NSW) ATN-007 plates?
This article is the dumbest shit I’ve ever read
But Tom says the decision to translate vital communication could mean migrants don’t feel the need to learn English.
Maybe Tom’s been reading up on Bill 101 - the law in Quebec that mandates most signage is in French unless there a need for it to be in English.
He does have a point though. Signage should be in English when it comes to government communications, especially for traffic directions. If they ever go up for citizenship, remove the phones from them and give them some really complicated English to work out.
A poster is hardly the same as a roadsign, and I daresay Tom knows that.
I knkw. But anyrhint from a government agency should be in English in the first instance.
