Dream Home

Synopses for next week’s episodes

Sunday 23/6
With just hours to go on the final reno in QLD, a summer storm sends the couples scrambling. When the sun finally comes out for the judges’ arrival, what they’ll see will wow and equally horrify them.

Monday 24/6
Our Queensland teams get to see their fully transformed dream homes, and after the reveals, all couples head back to work as the next stop is Sydney where a stormy build awaits them!

Tuesday 25/6
The final Dream Home house reno’s are under way. Tensions at Punchbowl (Jacinta and Jordan’s home) lead to a showdown, and at Belrose (Lara and Peter’s home), a misplaced heater nearly sets the house on fire.

Solid win for Lara and Peter

NSW couple fight their way to the top of the leaderboard

Tonight on Dream Home: NSW husband and wife team Lara and Peter delivered a knock-out ensuite bathroom and nursery – scoring 28.5 out of 30 from judges Simon Cohen, Rosie Morley and Lana Taylor and closing the gap with sisters Taeler and Elle who are currently sitting on the top of the leaderboard.

At Rhys and Liam’s home in Deception Bay, the judges loved Hannah and Jonny’s transformation of the façade. Lana said it was bang-on the brief. Simon agreed, noting the front-yard swing added a playful touch. They also loved the couple’s downstairs tradie bathroom, praising the planning and layout.

In contrast, the judges were underwhelmed with Jacinta and Jordan’s entry foyer, criticising the cluttered styling and scale, saying it was a room of missed opportunities.

The couple’s master bedroom and walk-in wardrobe didn’t fare much better. All judges were horrified to see Jacinta and Jordan had used fake rattan to finish their wardrobe. Lana also labelled the overall tones of the space as bland.

Brad and Mel nailed the brief with their nursery for Liam’s daughter, Remi. Simon said it was super fun, while Lana said their styling was beautiful and age appropriate.

After struggling to deliver a winning bathroom in previous rounds, Brad and Mel finally achieved redemption. The judges praised their space for its modern, classy finishes and functionality.

At Hannah and Jonny’s house in Coorparoo, the judges were blown away by Rhys and Liam’s Palm Springs-inspired façade. Simon said it was so good that it belonged in a magazine, while Lana loved the focal point of the colourful doors.

The brothers’ glamour bathroom was also a hit, with the judges loving the controversial chequerboard tiles and use of rattan on the cupboard door.

Taeler and Elle’s entrance foyer was applauded for its balance of hard finishes and soft greenery, but they said the sisters had overlooked the inclusion of practical storage.

Taeler and Elle also wowed the judges with their hotel-like master bedroom and walk-in robe. Lana loved the space’s colour, texture and curves but questioned the practicality of the bed nook.

After struggling with their ensuite bathroom, Lara and Peter were thrilled to hear the judges describe the space as beautiful and elegant with a spacious layout.

The couple also hit the mark with their nursery for Hannah and Jonny’s twins, Goldie and Theo. Rosie was overwhelmed by the beauty of the space, and Simon said it was cool.

Monday night on Dream Home: The teams head to NSW to renovate the final two homes. But with another team re-shuffle, there’s tension on-site as opinions and strategies clash.

Late to the party, but don’t know why she’d want to jump ship now… Doubt Dream Home will last after next season.

She dodge a bullet given it’s pulling half the amount of viewers The Block does. I’ld be surprised if a second season goes into production.

At last night’s judges reveal, Dr Chris also announced details of the final round of renovation.

The top three teams would see their scores wiped clean. They would each renovate their own backyard. The highest scoring team at the end of the round would receive $100,000 off their mortgage.

So the same prize as the last series of House Rules - which started out by paying off the entire mortgage then reduced it in later years.

Feels like they’re only getting the home owners to do their own backyards as a point of difference. No doubt if Dream Home was on another network Channel 7 would have been getting their lawyers involved.

It has been House Rules dressed up as Dream Home all along.

And does that really matter?
… and it’s doing ok, filling a void, relatively competitive in its timeslot compared to the other networks.

It doesn’t matter but House Rules did the same.

distant third relatively competitive?

Well looking at yesterday’s average audience and average broadcast audience it wasn’t distant at all.

I don’t think it’s a distinct 3rd.

Yesterday only 4k behind 9, Sunday +130k on MasterChef, last Tuesday -30k on MasterChef, last Monday -90k on MasterChef, last Sunday +60k on MasterChef,

It’s not doing great numbers like Farmer did for 7 but it’s not being blown out of the park either

Sadly mediocrity is often considered success nowadays.

But these days the only hugely successful things on Australian tv are live sport and MAFS.

Seven announced this morning that the new season of Dancing with the Stars would premiere on Sunday, July 7. What it means for the final judges reveal of the Sydney homes is not known yet.

Synopses of next week’s episodes

Sunday 30 June
After riding high on the leaderboard all season, sisters Taeler and Elle finally take a tumble when the judges go cold on their stone laden kitchen.

Monday 1 July
This is the final cycle of our NSW Dream Homes which leaves seven days to complete their renovations and secure a place in the top three and with it a backyard and a shot at $100k.

Tuesday 2 July
There are only a few days left until the final Dream Home reveals and with a backyard and $100,000 off a mortgage on the line, there’s so much at stake.

Well they aired a promo after last night saying there are reveals every night, Sunday, Monday & Tuesday. So idk what they meant by that.

Maybe the final judges reveal of Sydney homes will air straight after DWTS? (thus resting 7News Spotlight for the night)

Then on the Monday, Lara and Peter, and Jacinta and Jordan return to see their fully built and renovated homes, before the backyard renovations begin.

The next night it should be the grand final with the judges reveal of the backyards and the announcement of the winning team.

Spotlight is currently scheduled for 8:45 on 7 July.
